I sure am glad that I used protection when I cleaned up his remains.

Use caution anytime that you're working around strange animals.

I've shot a couple that were staggering around the yard, during the day.

That same summer of the skunk chasing me in midday, we saw an oppossum out in daylight just going round and round in a small circle chasing its tail. Dad got the .22 and I got the gas can and a match. When he was a young man, my Dad had to take the series of the old time rabies shots. It was many shots and was apparently very painful.

I've taken out a few skunks that were staggering around the property in the daytime, likely rabid as they usually aren't out mid day. They got buried. A few years ago a resident in my town had a run in with a rabid bobcat. I've had a couple bobcats pass through the backside of my own property, so I know they're out there.

Since you mentioned the rabid bobcat, there was a woman down here in Alabama last week that was watching her dogs and saw a bobcat run into a ditch. She was trying to round up the pups to move away and it suddenly ran out and latched onto her arm and would not let go. News show some deep wounds where it took a hold of her arm. A friend of hers had grabbed his gun and hit it until it let go and then shot it. It was confirmed as rabid. Here is a pic in the story.
