Im almost out of adjustment on my clutch. Still pulls good- no slipping but ..... I'm coming up on a clutch I think. What is approx cost of replacement- Circa 96 5400 9f 3r reverse trans - non shuttle shift and open station. Go

To do it yourself, or to go to a dealer shop? or some other plan? I don't know the answer either way, but would need to have an idea to give you a ballpark answer.

to pay some one to do it. I don't have the time or I would.

Assuming from the photo you have a loader. I would guess stripping and installing the loader and frames, tractor split apart and back together with new clutch should take less than eight hours. Add to that any other repairs it may need (or you get talked into) and multiply that by whatever is the going shop rate. A clutch "kit" will run $600 or so for aftermarket to possibly twice that for OEM. Then there's added fluids, filters, and the other incidental charges. Anybody's guess.
I've split a couple 2WD 5300's just for the clutch (bare tractor, no loader) and back together in four hours or less.

Back when I was a JD dealer service manager I supervised several JD utility tractors that were split for clutch R&R with frt end loader still attached. I think a 5400 can be split with loader attached.

Well it takes all of a few min to pull the pins and take loader off so thats no big deal

I think I'd choose the A&I or reman clutch assembly over RE66695

If I were doing a clutch replacement AGAIN..... I would definitely go the OEM or reman route. A&I might be OK also.
I bought an aftermarket clutch (Chinese?) from E-Bay seller Reliable Aftermarket Parts Inc/Stevenslake (they are sister companies), and their new clutch failed after 3 hours of use.
I was in rural Canada, with the tractor, at the time, so there was no opportunity for a prompt return.
Reliable also has a very nasty customer service person named Vicky, who hates customers.
I had a prior item shipping damage issue with Vicky. Never again will I buy from them!
One tractor split is a major cost/nuisance, two splits are ABSURD !!!
