I thought I would open a thread to understand the AR rifle.

I have many firearms but no AR's, lots of people have them that go to the range I am a member of, I don't see the need for me to purchase one at this point. If I use a rifle for some reason I use a bolt action rifle.

A few questions for people that have them.

1. Why did you purchase it?
2. Other than capacity what advantages do they have as opposed to a semi automatic traditional rifle?
3. Did you build you're rifle or buy it complete?
4. What caliber did you purchase and why?
5. Is the SW sport 2 Magpul MOE M-LOK a decent firearm?

I would buy one if there is something I'm missing that is important to me but so far I'm not seeing it.
I toured Windam Weaponry, pretty neat place..

I hope this stays an educational thread..

I have AR's because they are contemporary and very modular.

I ha several caliber configurations and even share a lower between two differing caliber uppers. Barrel swaps are a breeze.

I have one configured as a bolt gun without the gas tube. No Semi auto function. Fun! They feel good with wood furniture.

They clean easily and require little upkeep. Just keep 'em oiled.

I like to build.

I have an AR-15 because I like having it!
I have a Kubota L48 TLB for the very same reason!

personally... owning a few different mini-14's I never was interested in an AR style rifle...too big of a case required etc...for hunting I like my Browning auto in 30-06...
What I'm most into now is the KelTek PMR and CMR series using .22 WMR with the standard 30 mags that are interchange between the pistol and the carbine...they are awesome...!
IMO .22 WMR is one of the most underrated rounds for personal protection etc...

I couldn't agree more.. I have several firearms in 22 WMR and shoot them often, I see PMR's used like new and will buy one at some point.. I have a Bar and a BLR, love them both..

IDK, maybe I'm just not an AR guy, When I rifle shoot I like doing it with a nice older bolt action Sako or Weatherby nail driver, there is just something about a high quality beautifully made wood gun..

I bought a .22WMR Ruger revolver for my 73 year old wife (concealed carry), last year.
She loves it, and can EASILY manage it!

I'm just like atsah, I've wondered the same thing. My neighbor is really into guns and has loads, several ARs also. He set up a range, shoots all the time. I took my .243 Ruger bolt action over, zeroed in the scope and put a few bullets through the target center dot. I can't understand or see sense in repetitive shooting. Once it's dialed in that's it. Just my opinion.
It would be so boring and costly...bang,bang,bang...50-100 rounds!

I have a mini 14 that shoots .223, I like the look of a sporting rifle better.

I have 1 ar type, its chambered for 9mm and takes glock magazines. I may sell it since I bought a new pc9 that takes glock mags.

I had a m&p ar15, traded for a nice o&u with a neighbor.

They are currently in style and are like the lego toys of the gun world. You can buy a million parts and most fit together.

The ones I have/had shot well, but I think they are ugly.
