Yes, they may be "military style" but that is it... "Style" other than that they are like any other semi auto sporting gun. And if you (you in general, not you in particular) don't think I could assault you with my daughters cricket then there is something wrong.
I get it. I can kill with a pencil... Quite effectively.

But I can kill much greater numbers in much greater distances with an AR, AK, SKS or any other rapid firing rifle with the ability to hold reasonable capacity.

That fact right there is the part that the anti gun crowd recognize and many of us gun loves want to pretend isn't true.

I'm a gun but. But I still understand the issue at hand and I understand the truth to having fast acting and high capacity.

The old grind never once referred to the AR as such. Your the person that just regurgitated that.

But to say it's not military style is Idiocracy. It is an absolute visual match to the M4 used today by our military. It's parts are mostly all perfectly interchangable. So style.... Yes. The AR that we all know and love is more than military style. It's the very exact military rifle in use around the globe today... Save for the fitting group.

I own a few Colt AR rifles. I can swap parts with my son in the Marines and it would be like for like. I can file a part or two and make it not select fire but full auto.

When I hear other gun nuts try to say that mine and their AR are not military style weapons I know right away that I'm hearing a fool.

Semi auto handguns such as the Sig M17 or Beretta 92 or Glock 17 are also used by the military in war. We have near exact replicas available to citizens in the US today. If we arent careful with the AR platform...they will be coming for these next. The goal is confiscation. It always has been.

What matters is the firing group...however I dont feel full auto should have been outlawed either. The AR is one of the best self defense platforms available in the US.

Now that we are touching on suppressors for AR's. What recommendations do you have for a 5.56? I do love my AAC Halycon on my Ruger Mark IV Lite!

I dont like suppressing 5.56. I would recommend 300 blackout if you are going that route. I like the AAC 7.62 SDN personally. It will work on 556, 300 blk and 7.62 (308). It is a bit on the heavy side...but very well made.

Lots of fuss over what we keep calling "fun guns". So, they're fun because cheap ammo doesn't have to be aimed if you have enough rounds in the mag? Noisemakers and firecrackers, ... manhood measurers, ... how many of us are hunting trophy, food, or predator with military guns and/or ammo? Aren't we saying "follow me" to basement dwellers, and pretending only the guys 'on our side' ever hear us?

What are FMJ practice rounds by the hundreds for except to shoot FMJs better? Practice your mag swaps for home defense? Everybody should, right? Ads show a guy with a civilian beard (dark glasses required) lugging $3k worth of military sighting and fighting bling. We emulate that and wonder why nut jobs do too? Is .450 Bushmaster or 6.5 Grendel best to defend one's boudoir? John Wayne, or John Wick, paramilitary wannabes, we try to be, and always a role model for ___s. (pencil-in your fave)

Flaunting that nobody can take away my military style guns is not lost on the mentally deranged. Aren't we helping the entertainment media glorify blasting bad guys? It's only a matter of story-line who's good and who's bad in one's mind, then. Dirty cop? Child murderer? Armed robber? Zombie? Just show me, I'm ready to do my part.

Armed citizens dreaming of being a hero? I hear guys brag that a pastor lets 'em carry in church. Shoot first and get a good lawyer, we all but suggest. Moral high ground is best defended with bullets? Oh ...

I never have understood "berm blasting". A load of 00 buck does the same, and all at one hammer fall.

Yeah that's why Kalifornia made people change them to look different and need a "Tool" to remove the mag. But they are no assault weapons. No select fire switch. And go ahead and file down some parts. Just know prison sucks. In the form we are allowed to have they are just semi auto sporting rifles. Nothing more.

When I hear, "I own ___ and I support the 2nd amendment, BUT" I discount anything after that. Another one is "Why if you don't have anything to hide, why do you care if they ____"

I hear that, but being familiar with some larger weapon systems (and having an interest in high energy physics/chemistry) it's become very apparent to me that the item used isn't the problem. In fact, while it may sound harsh, I'd rather deal with "gun violence" and have the media frothing over it than deal with potential of some of the alternatives starting to take place more frequently. Things like IEDs, suicide bombers, or explosive-laden drones/UAS, and homemade rockets being just a few examples.

Really all a person need do is look at some of the weapons that have been used by terrorist organizations in the Middle East, and realize that even those crude (yet lethally effective) devices can be relatively easily made in some rather austere environments. For example, a common $500 (or cheaper) quadcopter and some homemade explosives could/can do a lot of damage.... and it'd probably be cheaper to acquire/build and carry out than most mass shootings. In fact I'd suspect many here have substances around the house that could have bomb-making potential if combined in ways to do so. Which (thinking "aloud") is probably part of the reason why drones were used in the attack against Saudi oil facilities.

Nope, I think this violence is an issue of morality, social/cultural adhesion, and personal responsibility (or more precisely a deficit of each) .... and unless something changes (towards the positive) on those fronts in society as a whole I suspect it's only going to get worse. Personally I suspect guns are (currently) the weapon of choice in the US for most cases because they aren't that expensive, and they get an out-sized amount of attention -- with AR/AK-styles getting even more attention.

I call those Butters. We know they only support the second amendment as long as it aligns with their beliefs
