Are all sub compacts essentially equal?

A Boomer 25 and Deere 1025R are within an inch of being the same length, and I don't trust the shipping weight specs because they don't specify whether they are with, or without tires, and we know a lot of tractors get shipped without tires (since the 1025R was made by in Japan and shipped here).
The 1025R's are not made in Japan ( the 2 series are). They are made in the US, but of course they have Yanmar engines and other foreign parts.

I saw a Boomer 25 last week at a dealer. It is defiantly larger than a SCUT.

First had experience, and perceptions mean nothing to arm chair quarterbacks. It looked bigger to me as well.....but it really does not matter.

I think the market has decided, what do you see stacked against each other....BX vs. 1 series vs. Max vs. GC....

Anyone that has seen the machines next to each other will say they are in the same group....Actually I think the Mahendra is a little bigger as well. But it really does not matter, I think the question was answered long ago, they are pretty close to each other.

I'm sure you're right. I can't, and don't try, to keep track of which Deere models are made here with Yanmar engines, those made by Yanmar completely, or some other variation.

You have said, multiple times, in this thread that you saw a Boomer 30, and have never seen a Boomer 20, 24 or 25 in person (or the LS versions of the same).

The Boomer 30 is over a foot longer, and 1,200lbs heavier! Talk about armchair quarterbacking without firsthand experience!

My bad. On the new Holland site they have them called Compact tractors and not Sub compact tractors, John Deere calls them Sub compact utility tractors...guess that is what tossed me....so if we want to get all technical New Holland does not have a "real sub-compact"

It also looks like NH puts several different sized machines into that same bucket, where I THINK the others have them in different areas on their site.

But true I have never laid eyes on one of the Boomer 20 or 25's I guess the 24 is something that just does not exist at least on their web site and you should have taken a minute to check the stats so you don't do a disservice to people looking for info. :p

There is a New Holland dealer down the street from work....I will run down during lunch today and see if they have one in stock....I want to get out of the office anyway.

some snips from the NH web site.

OOPS. guess I should have said I did go look at one. I am really not sure why you are so passionate on this topic, but even seeing the new Holland machines did look bigger.

I'm not "passionate" about it, I'd just like to see consistency in what people are complaining about. One machine is a SCUT, but another that's virtually identical in size isn't. That's just silly....

I tend to agree with Gman on this one... If the tractors match up in size & weight, then they have to be classified together. I agree that the specific classification between sizes (ie SCUT to CUT) may be rather ambiguous, and maybe there are big SCUT's & small SCUT's ... but if size matches, then the machines are comparable. Whether one "feels" larger is irrelevant. And if two similarly sized tractors match up in size but one is stronger, that doesn't mean the stronger one must be bumped up in class ... it just means that it'ss stronger.

Did not know I was complaining, just not agreeing with you on this one.

Bottom line is if you are looking at a machine in this class get off the computer screen and reading specs and go put your fanny in the seat of the different machines. Specs are a good rule of thumb, but I really think you are getting a very safe stat on the machines abilities. In todays world where lawyers rule, the days of inflated HP numbers and optimistic gallons per hour use are long gone.

What does this mean??? They have had the Nebraska tests forever.

I didn't say you personally were complaining, but there are a few people who beat the long dead horse about what constitutes what class tractor, as if there is some line in the sand about what is, and what isn't a SCUT, or CUT.

You just keep saying that some "felt" bigger, even though the actual size and weight figures don't support that. What you feel doesn't mean anything when it comes to actual size. Maybe blue paint makes tractors look larger to you than green paint, but that simply isn't factual. Size and weight specs aren't a feeling, and they aren't an opinion.

Getting seat time is important to decide how a machine fits you, not for getting a feel about it's capability to lift, power, or pull. If you don't trust the manufacturer to put out a reasonably accurate spec, then you should buy from a different manufacturer.
