Are any tractors made in the U.S. anymore?

Yes, the 5003 series are built in India. They are lower cost models that have fewer bells and whistles. Imported to offer a JD for less.

So, if you want something that is a bit more American, you and others might have to research behind the curtains.

If your brother can get you a great deal on an AGCO...just how far is a dealer anyway???

( The only tractors I can think of that are made in the US are specialty tractors like Power Trac, Steiner and Ventrac. )

Just to amplify Bob_Skurka's comments, the entire Power Trac {HERE} line of tractors and implements is designed, fabricated and assembled right here in the good ol' U.S of A. One just has to take a trip to Tazewell, VA and you can see the entire operation from start to finish. Granted, the PT line is somewhat unconventional, and perhaps not best suited for some crop type activities. With that limitation, the PT's will walk circles around their competition at each engine displacement point.

I bought my PT for what it can do, and because it's genuine, made in U.S.A.--- the real deal. If I have any problem (none so far at almost 1 year), I would simply get on the phone to the factory and speak directly with Terry who oversees the manufacturing end, and I would get the problem sorted out and needed parts in the mail same day. I like that...

I've been to the Kubota factory outside Atlanta. BX, TG, T, G, GR and the RTV are made in the USA. The engines and tranny's are done in Japan, the rest is all done here. All of the loaders, backhoes and mower decks are done here by KMA. Many of the implements, as well as the smaller tractors are actually exported to other countries. All this is done by KMA - Kubota Manufacturing of America, am american company that employs about 4000 people, all of which are non-union. A few miles away is the final assembly plant for all the larger equipment that dealers don't setup. The KX construction line is in the process of being moved to GA as well, that building will be done any time.

The tour was amazing, I've been on a few factory tours and it was the most advanced I have ever seen. I know people who have been to the plants in Japan and they say they are several times more impressive than this was.

I have not been to NH's plant, they do alot more outsourcing so I am not sure how much there is to see. They do have several final assembly locations for the tractors, I am pretty positive the company itself is not involved in any actual implement production.

To my knowledge the "most american" tractor would be the Cub Cadet 5000 series.

That tour was amazing!

Hi Kyle!

I'm working on the AGCO possibility. The AGCO dealers are independent, like most dealers are, I would assume. Knowing someone on the "inside" doesn't necessarily translate into an automatic bargain. I don't think the mark-up over dealer cost in my area varies much from manufacturer to manufacturer. The closest dealer is Massey Ferguson, which is an hour away. The others are a little farther.

On the other hand, the JD dealer is 7 miles away, and the HN/Kubota dealer is 30 miles. I have a little more research to do before I purchase, but I will say I like the way the JD's feel, the demonstratated dependability and the close-by dealer support. I also am impressed with Kubota's reliability. So many choices!

So what factors went into your tractor purchase?

1)Price
2)Dealer/parts/information/service dept.
3)Long term Value (in case I needed to sell or trade)
4)Thought green would compliment my meadows nicely /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well fellas, I pulled the trigger yesterday! Delivery is scheduled at my house this Friday. I'll post photos in the appropriate forum as soon as I figure out how to reduce them to site guidelines.

Care to guess which brand? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Anyhow, I hope I did not get anyone upset with this thread. You can't always accurately interpret a posters intent by reading typed text. My intent was to learn from the discussion, and learn I did! I'm learning a whole lot about getting things done thanks to the collective knowledge here.

I do have to say that this is great site and I really like the way everyone treats each other with respect, even when they disagree.

Can't wait to play...er...work with my new tractor on Friday! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Either your brother came thru and got you a 50% factory price reduction on AGCO, or....you bought the JD. Question is which one???
