( A 20 or 30 year old any brand tractor if used as a tractor will be pretty much used up.)

Not to start anything but I would disagree that at 20-30 years a tractor is used up. Many are just broken in at that point. As I mentally go through all the tractors in my area, I would say more than 50% are more than 30 years old and are running fine and are used regularly for farming activities.

I'd say the same is true in my area as well. I see 30-40 year old tractor around here all the time just a gettin it. John

( I don't really agree that the thread was a good idea, but I'm sure Bob meant well, and thought that his comparisons might help someone to look at some things they might not otherwise look into.
We all have to remember that others have bought the brands, and are happy with them, that we may be seemingly running down. I've been guilty of it as well, but strive to only compare, not judge. Maybe one day I'll get there. John )

What KiotiJohn said I agree with. When picking apart another tractor; one that people have purchased after whatever process they used to make their choice, is insulting. You are questioning their ability to make a good choice, and I can certainly see where a person could take those comments personally.

I do think that comparisons can be made in a more "neutral" vein. Of course good natured braggin' is part of this forum and should be tolerated.

I was not going to jump in on this thread but I agree John and others that 20-30 years old does not mean its not serviceble.

At the same time I see a number of newer tractors that have not been maintained and will be a rust pile before they get to 15years old.

If you take care of it, it will take care of you.....

As much as some may think I enjoy seeing Bob catch it for this thread, I know that he did it because he thought it was a good idea to explore whether the "big 3" are really worth the money they charge for them as opposed to some other brands. I'm sure he expected a good natured debate about the pros and cons using pictures to illustrate the differences. Not a bad idea in theory, but there are just too many emotions involved in this case. What seems to some to be him running down other brands was meant to be an objective view of differences, nothing more. I'm sure he thought others would post comparitive pictures of other models as well. Could have been interesting, but tempers got in the way and this thread should probably just fizzle away for now. Re: Are \"BIG 3\" brands worth more than \"Minor\" brands? *DELETED*

I didn't mean to sound so blunt lasy p.m. but I have had a Kubota L2500, New Holland TC25 4x4 and 2 other smaller New Holland's and my Branson has just been as good as those. At the time I could buy I couldn't come up with the extra $4,000 for a comparible tractor. I gambled and did alot of research on the internet and even called the Georgia factory and was really impressed with the Branson history in South Korea. I feel that the big 3 are extremely good tractors but just didn't want to or couldn't come up with the extra $. Last wk I pulled a 8ft. wide X 15 ft long land leveler or what they call a switch blade and I pulled it with a 30 hp tractor and had to make sure the blades were loaded with dirt to do a good job. I pulled it in range 2 gear 1 and 2 ,this is an implement that a 90-100 hp tractor used to pull in the 1960's and 1970's. I was really impressed. I just don't want to cut down anyone's decision b/c they have to live with it, not me.
Good day to everyone and God bless.

Bob, I regret you deleted the original posts.

If for no other reason than resposes to those posts can not be measured, since the original posts are no longer there to look at if one happens on the thread after the fact. But the responses are.

No defense Bob...guilty by default...your words and thoughts are no longer there to defend you! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Or even to show that what you may have said may have been reasonable. I have to say "may have" because I can't see what it was that you said... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I assume you said something since other members responded... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I was planning to come back and read the thread later...whoops! THere is no later now! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

When picking apart another tractor;
Define 'picking apart".

If I point out that the FEL on tractor brand Y can lift more than the FEL on tractor brand X is that 'picking apart' tractor brand X?
