Are gas and diesel prices equalizing?

Prices vary in this area, but quite a few places are $2.099 for regular gas now and yesterday morning, I noticed one station that had gas at $2.099 and diesel at $2049. But another station had signs out showing gas at $2.129 and diesel at $2.149. So one was cheaper on gas and the other cheaper on diesel. Of course both stations were in Denton, TX. I have a brother in Ellensburg, WA, and yesterday he said their gas was $2.519 and diesel was $2.419.

Filled up yesterday diesel 1.99, gas was 2.11.

I passed a Shell station tonight on my way home from work, gas $2.09, diesel $1.99.

Here gas is $2.39 diesel is .20 more.

I didn't notice the diesel prices today, but the stations that were $2.099 two days ago for gas were $2.189 today.

Diesel prices go up in the fall when heating oil starts selling and drop some in spring when people stop buying heating oil.

Yesterday, my station was $1.98 diesel, $2.03 gas.

I reckon I started driving (with a license) about 5 years before you did, and that same year my dad bought a service station. I don't remember the prices going up for the summer way back there (maybe they did and I just don't remember it), but it does seem to happen in recent years. And sure enough, right when I'm about to make a 2,400 to 2,500 mile trip.

Today here in southern NH 87 Octane Regular Gas is $2.33 and Diesel is $2.30. I'm gonna start driving the dump truck to work.

One reason gas prices go up this time of year (at least in the recent past) is that the EPA requires the use of a more oxygenated (some call it 'summer gas') gasoline for the warmer weather.. This causes a slight price increase do to increased production costs..

Yep, Brian, I've seen that in the news about the "summer blend" now, but there's lots of things I don't understand. How much more, per gallon, does it increase the production costs? It would seem to me that if it cost, for instance $.30 a gallon, that they'd just go up that much, but what they've done, here at least this month, is increase the price 9 to 10 cents a gallon a couple of times, then another 4 cents a gallon, then another 9 cents. So overall, yes, it's up 34 cents a gallon since 4/26/09 at the station I use the most. Is all of that due to the increased production costs for summer blend?
