Oil & Fuel Are JD Power Tech engines fuel efficient?

Hello,

I'm a new member here and would like you all's opinion on this. Where I work we have 4 JD tractors- (2) 6200's, 6420, and a 7410. I have spent many hours on them all and they seem to burn a lot of fuel. I know the sales brochure's claim they are very fuel efficient but it just doesn't seem like it to me. JD's are the only tractors I have used so I can't compare the JD fuel consumption to other brands so thats why i'm asking.

My 5103 has the JD engine. It is very effecient for a big tractor. Of course it depends on the work load.

I have a 4520 with a Powertech 4 cylinder. It is as fuel efficient if not more so than my 3720 I traded. Now, mainly what I am doing with my current machine is ground engaging work, no PTO as of yet, but at 1800-2200 rpm, this tractor is as fuel efficient as any I have owned.

One way to compare is to go to the Nebraska Tractor Test web site. Click on the link to Test Reports, then pick the manufacturer then tractor model to view the test report.

Fuel efficiency is given in lb/HP-hrs (lower is better) and in HP-hrs/gal (higher is better). For example I see the John Deere 4720 tested at 0.449 lb/Hp-hrs at full power and the New Holland TC55DA tested at 0.577 lb/HP-hr. In this case the John Deere is more fuel efficient.

Those are the only two I looked at, but browsing others should give you a good idea of how the various models compare.
