Are there to many tractor manufactures ?

Depends who you ask.
Tractor makers likely would say too many.
Tractor buyers likely would say too few.
Regardless, the invisible hand of the market will decide.

That's right. If there are too many, eventually one or more will go out out of business or consolidate with another manufacturer.

It is partly about outsourcing and management of assets. Domestic workforces will be cut and if the jobs are integral to the company, they will be outsourced to cheaper overseas labor markets.

True, but I think perpetual outsourcing at the drop of a hat will catch up to those manufactures. Sooner or later they will not be able to provide replacement parts after doing a shell game for so many years.

I agree with that. On another site a poster from India said Mahindra was the tractor of India. He said that Mahindras were based on the old International and used many of their design features with many interchangeable parts. He said that every parts store and mechanic was familiar with both lines and that parts were common and cheap. Of course it helps that they are manufactured there.

My New Holland is made in Japan - Shibaura. It is Ford blue, sort of. Or LS blue! JD green is special because it is a Yanmar in disguise!

For years Dodge held up its colt as proof they made a long lasting car. Later we discovered it was a Mitsubishi!

I worry about the poor quality parts that may be manufactured. Out of our control- When I bought New Holland - it was a name from my childhood, when it was red and yellow. I never expected to own a blue Japanese tractor that everyone considered to be a Ford! My wife calls it the Blue Tulip.
