Wow, you're lucky to have that insurance company.
When I moved to the country the insurance co. I had been with for 18 years in my previous house wanted to know what kind of dogs I had... and they were the same two I had for 3 years or so in my old house. Plus a couple of Rotts before them with nothing said. My agent said they would write me anyway, but after he had met the dogs and determined *in his professional opinion* that they weren't vicious.
I told him he either writes me without knowing or I drop them then went into a little BSL is unconstitutional educational discussion.

They lost my house and vehicles and I've never looked back. It turned out both of my dogs were on their hot list anyway, so I'm sure they would have gouged me in premiums.

We've fostered for local agencies and for national ones. We've done breed rescue for English Setters on our own too -- a lot of our forsters were ES, but we've had a lot of different breeds over the years. All stayed in the house with our dogs and cat. The cat was our tester (named copy) who knew imediately if a dog was good with cats or not. This helped adopt out dogs to families who owned cats. We had up to 7 dogs in the house at once.

Actually. I've written an outline and sample chapters for a foster owners guide, but I haven't persued it yet. Finding a publisher is a real pain and my fiction agent isn't interested in a non-fiction book proposal.

Some insurance companies will not write a policy if certain breeds are at the house. I had home owners insurance for my city house and I don't remember being asked about dogs. When we built our county house there was questions about pools, trambolines, and dogs. Well we have a GSD which is one of the "bad" dogs but they wrote the policy I *** THINK *** because Kelly was about 10 years old and had not been a problem.

After our first year at the new house I started moving our insurance to NC Farm Bureau. For the same coverage my cost dropped by almost half. My agent never asked about a dog, or a pool, etc. I really wonder if the old policy jacked up my premium because of the dog...

You would think insurance companies would lower your premiums for dogs in houses that are in the country.

It took me a long time to figure out what GSD stood for, but why is the question, do not know of very many other breeds that have such abbreviations.

Is this some peculiar to just this breed?


Dumbdog, owner of a GRD, PD, RTPD. The neighbor had three BLD's and GLD.

The other neighbor had 4 CD's and DD.

Son's girlfriend had a CD.

My nephew had a GRD and another nephew had a BLD.
