We refer to each other as hillbillies, a complementary term amongst ourselves, not to be used
by non-hillbillies.

Same here in my neck of the woods.

I despise the term redneck. It has a negative connotation and is normally associated with an uneducated fool. I never understood why anyone would want to be called a redneck. I guess that is were the lack of education comes into play:).

I have found that sometimes, the more education a person has, the harder it is to get them to understand the basics of operating and repairing tractors and implements.

Highly educated, climbed the ladder, and love the farm, tractor and outdoors working. Money isn't everything.

Ha ha, for once, we agree! See, at one point or another, all of us TBN'rs find common ground.

personally your comment comes across as someone that is quite limited in "education" formal or otherwise...so "speak on oh toothless one"...

The term originally applied to immigrant workers that spent their days working in the sun, particularly those that were picking crops etc. that exposed the nape of their necks...these days it is mostly meant to define anyone that is capable of using/utilizing whatever they have "on hand" to accomplish something...so how "educated" are you? and how do you use it?...my guess would be that it is as someone that holds the role as some sort of a teacher/instructor etc...i.e., someone that could not cut it in the real world...I pity anyone that deems you as a role model or mentor...

My personal observation is that some of the most highly (formally) educated individuals are some of the stupidest people on the planet...with the limited number of posts you have here so far puts you into that category...prove me wrong...so far accusing those that accept the connotation...I find quite intelligent...

The term redneck (in the states) was derived from union miners vs coal mine owners is WV...back in the day owners sent thugs to bust unions in WV...union members/supporters wore red bandanas around their necks to distinctly mark themselves...the union busting attempt eventually led to a shooting "war" in southern WV...BTW the "war" included ariel bombing and machine guns ! The union busting attempt eventually failed...and the " rednecks" won !

For reference see The Battle of Blair Mountain...the "war" was actually called "The Redneck War" by some writers...makes for an interesting bit o history !
