Are you a tractor snob?

   / Are you a tractor snob? #61
I would like to say that I hope that I didn't cause a rift with some of my new found tractor buddies. I just felt a need to express my displeasure with the current economy. I didn't mean to cause problems between anyone here. I am thankful that folks want a forum that we can be open, honest and discuss stuff here but in MikePA's case, I think that he was just trying to warn me not to run my mouth too much and get this awesome thread closed before we had a chance to enjoy it. I also forgot to answer the question that was asked of us and before I forget again, I will answer it . /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Tractor snob: NO; If I had the money my door yard would have at least a few more "colors" parked in it.
Country snob: A little, more like country pride though.

Tractor Snob???

Absolutely not!!

I am sure as soon as someone other than NH makes a tractor I would at least want to see a picture!

Tractor snob? Definitely not.

Tractor hog? You betcha.

I have a nice B7510HST with the LA302 FEL, nearing 50 hours, bought last May.

My problem is that I keep wanting more tractors.

Have my eye on a pair of old Ford 2Ns for sale a few miles from my place. Asking about $2300 each.

And I can't drive by the grey market tractor guy's place without stopping and kicking the tires on his Yanmars and Isekis. I want one of those too.

Looks like I'm going to fill up my new 24'x42' garage with tractors real fast.

My family for years in farming, it had to be green, period. Well after shopping for 2 years, needing a tractor for my 4.5 acre ranch (ha,ha), decided on red (mahinda) for simple reasons. At 35 hp, heavier than most. Red paint seems to cost a lot less than green paint, including parts. Very rugged and tough, dependable (580 hrs in one year) no breakdowns. Big plus, the dealer is dependable, 10 minutes from my house. But boy, did I get brow beat until I explained my reasons. Still would like green (status symbol), but this little 35hp, 4WD, does everything I need, why over buy? I'm not worried about what other people think , I'm about as practical as a person can get. Same with beer, Coors light same as Keystone light, I buy KL, hear about that too, tastes the same , still gets the job done.

Henro,

Obviously a great idea for a thread, as proven by all the responses.

Tractor Snob? I don't know enough about them to be a snob. With the JD 4115 being my first tractor (CUT), obvioulsy price was not my highest priority. Reputation, quality, dependable local sales and service, dealer's advise, and availability of parts and attachments topped my list. Nearly bought a 'Bota but got the distinct impression from the local dealer that they didn't need my business. The Brand Name, Made in the USA (Kinda), and loyalty to a company started by a fellow Vermonter did, I suppose, have their influence. So far, I have no complaints (other than payments /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif). The J.D. has done everything I have asked of it, and often surprised me by doing more than expected.

As for Beer; 1st I prefer my own (but too lazy to make any lately), 2nd I'll take VT Pub & Brewery's hand drawn "Burly Irish", 3rd Otter Creek's "Copper Ale" (preferably on tap but bottled is acceptable if poured into a tall cool mug). I insist on the mug as it requires getting off the tractor and taking a long cool break /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif.

My rules for beer are similar to those for tractors: As long as it comes in a green bottle or can and is made in USA it is ok with me.

With over a half century of close association with International Harvester, one of the most loyalty/sentimental attachment brands there will ever be, I think I would have a better than most cause for tractor snobbery. None here, though. I have the loyalty/sentiment thing full bore, but it in no way causes me to think less of others.
I've had many happy hours operating my sister's JD5310 and when I needed an affordable used TLB I got what I could - a Ford 3500D.
Some of the other tractor guys in the hunt club I belong to use Masseys, Kubotas, Allis Chalmers; I think they're all fine machines, and would consider myself fortunate to have one of each.
Still, when I think "tractor" the image in my head is a Farmall H.
Beer? Nineteen years last month. I almost don't remember what it tasted like. Almost.;)
