I am setting up an appointment with an attorney in a couple of weeks on another matter (right-of-way to a land locked piece of property) and will talk with them about this.

The difference is that you want the LLC to own the property -- so if someone sues the LLC, they could attach/get the property. In my case, the LLC owns very little (computer, office equipment, etc.), so that is all that is at risk...

Yes it is confusing. And even then they can still sue you. Anymore that's about all it takes to get a settlement. It costs so much to fight anything that a lawyer can cry wolf and they will get $20-100k just to go away because it would cost that much from the insurance company just to get to court much less fight it. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif It's a sad state of affairs we live in for sure. Not much honor left I'm afraid.

Investigate C corps and Limited Partnerships... Nearly bombproof but some hurdles/stipulations...
