He didn't coast...he and his father (my uncle) built it up from their hard work and one half-ton pickup truck....they worked 6-7 days a week for twenty years to build up that business. I resent your insinuation that he coasted into his career.

I don't think riptides meant it that way. I think he thought the cousin in the farmhouse worked very hard as a farmer.

Money is not the true measure if success in this life. Money is the root of all kinds of evil.

Corrected: "For the LOVE of money is the root of all kinds of evil..."

No disrepect meant....

Maybe I should re-post the story of my cousin who lives in a 5,000 square foot home on 80 acres in southern Michigan and is a multimillionaire with a huge company, while I have another cousin the same age who lives in a run-down 110 year old farmhouse on a half acre a half mile down the road from him. Guess what? These cousins grew up in near-identical households. But one wanted to work and advance and one wanted to coast along and get by. Guess my rich cousin only had good luck, and the lazy one only had bad luck? What a crock of s***.......

Hmmm... Which one wanted to work to become rich?

So the rich guy coasted into a lucrative career with a huge company? Wow. Good for him. :)

Guess you missed the s a r c a s u m.

I see people coasting into money (richness as by your definitions in this string) all the time. I also see people working hard trying to scrape a living out of nothing their whole lives.

Hard work alone does not make one rich in monies.

Jealously, laziness, and ignorance, is the root of all kinks of evil. Money is the path to self reliance and freedom. HS

My plan is simple. I'm going out feet first.

I hear ya.

I've referenced my Brother a couple times in this thread. He is a shrewd money man. He'll do anything he can to come out on top of even the smallest money transaction. He'll use that shrewdness to further himself financially against all oncomers including his own family. He now resides in a VA home with terminal COPD at 66. I wonder what comfort his financially "Wise" decisions give him today??

It's pretty hard to claw your way to the top financially without leaving some marks somewhere along the way.

You can pick up a hammer, and build a house with it. Or, kill someone with the same hammer.

If the evil resides somewhere, it is in us, not the tool.

The above sentence reads way more preachy than intended, just my take on JD's nuance......

In Ontario, mandatory retirement has been abolished in the public sector, so you can work as long as you are able. And here's a big surprise. The federal government forces you to take your pension at age 71, but, since you can still be working, you can have both your salary and your pension at the same time!😜

There are those who believe this and seek to obtain more and more money no matter the methods or consequences. In other words, money is the root of all kinds of evil.
