The difference here is, the federal government was created to protect our rights and freedoms enumerated in the constitution. It was never suppose to be an economic safety net for housing, medical, or food. You are to provide for those things on your own. HS

since the federal government was created by christians who believe in charity there should be no problem with supporting those in need.

HS, prior to retirement I worked 31 years for the government in a state department that provided the needy citizens of Michigan with medical and disability assistance, these were jointly funded by the state and federal government and the food stamp program is federally funded.

Please clarify why you feel the federal government is not supposed to provide an economic safety net because to me, a nation should be judged by how well it cares for it's disadvantaged citizens.

About the only thing you have left out trying to weed yourself out of your messy failed logic is the local government.

Not totally true... but this is what many of my German and Austrian colleagues think....

Thanks. It's always interesting to hear from people who have seen more than one perspective. I lived outside the US for a number of years and it opened up new views on things.

i'm saying that those who complain about their tax dollars going to help out those who have basic needs are not charitable but concerned about their own personal wealth.
