Area tick control - Acaricides

New and improved I'm guessing. Anybody know WHY? they changed their formula?

I've always wish there something like that stuff that I could use on my self. :D

Wedge

We spray our work/play clothes with Permathin a few hours before going into the woods (it needs to dry)....and spray 'em every time we wash our clothes. (The stuff lasts like 2 weeks!...and is supposed to work after washing...but we do NOT want tick issues.)

We use Repel brand Permathin for gear and clothing. We live and work in a tick haven......and this stuff really keeps the tick problems to a minimum. I also spray the platform on the tractor, our 4 wheeler seats and foot pads, and the golf cart floor / seats.

Our kids and family spray their clothes before going in the woods too. We will get a very occasional tick but nothing like before we started this program....VERY EFFECTIVE TICK CONTOL....and a very worthwhile product IMO.

Wasn't really sure which forum to put this in, but since I plan to apply it an attachment, this seems like the right one. Like the title says, I'm looking for a liquid concentrate (in bulk) to use for tick control on my property. The ticks are out of control this year. Even with Frontline applied to my dogs they are still getting eaten alive this year. Last night I pulled 26 ticks off of my little 23 lb. Boggle. My 75 lb. black lab is fairing much better and only had 6 ticks. Those nasty little blood-suckers sure like the little guy.

So, which acaricide have others used and had good results with?

we had same prob with frontline our dog and cats were full of ticks we called frontline and sent it all back got new batch and so far it seams to be working. we tried the liquid and the pellets a few yrs ago didnt have much luck the best methed we found is keeping the grass as low as possible.

Advantix seems to work much better than frontline on our golden retreiver.

As several others have said, the best tick control are guinea fowl, second best are chickens. We have a flock of free range chickens on our farm, supplemented with 1/2 dozen guinea fowl. We have an egg business from the chickens and the guinea fowl are strictly tick controllers. I have yet to find a tick on any of my 4 dogs and 4 outside cats this year. At best chemicals cut down the numbers, but typically at least 10% of any bug will be resistant to any chemical control. That leaves the 10% resistant bugs to reproduce and their offspring will mostly be resistant to the chemical. Eventually you have a population of resistant bugs. Bugs can't become resistant to guinea fowl and chickens. Someone else said that guinea fowl are the best long range solution. That is very true.

Cats? Ticks are not attracted to cats, something about their blood will not support ticks.

Actually, the best tick control is Fire Ants.

They've pretty much decimated the tick & chigger population in most of Texas. But, they're a bane to farmers and ranchers.
Now though, Texas is importing little tiny flies from South America that keep the FA population under control down there. They're hoping it will work here in the US, too.
The itty bitty flies lay their eggs in the FA's heads, and the fly larva eventually kills them.

To me the Fire Ants are the better of two evils. On just the few acres that I have, I can knock the Fire Ant mounds out pretty quickly with the baits.
But, the ticks & chiggers we used to have were a plague. You couldn't walk hardly anywhere without having to spray youself and would still get some on you.

Now, I can walk anywhere with no worries. (Of course, you have to keep an eye out and not step on any FA mounds).

Texas fire ants must be different from Mississippi fire ants. We have plenty of fire ants, but we also have plenty of fleas, ticks, and red bugs (chiggers).

I have noticed that, sometimes, some dogs in my kennel will be covered with critters while other dogs who have been treated exactly the same will have none.

I have also noticed that flea, tick, and red bug infestations seem to run in cycles from none to bad, while fire ants go from bad to worse.

Sorry, but I take ticks off cats fairly regularly. The real problem is that cats are more sensitive to pesticides.

i had a problem with ticks getting on my minidachs. last year there were none this year everytime they went out they picked up one or 2 i live in the city so the squirrels have free range here and are causing most of the flea and tick problems in my neighborhood.I use triazicide you can get it from lowes or walmart i used it to just spray around my house i mixed up a strong batch in a 5 gallon sprayer and sprayed my whole yard about 2 weeks ago so far i have found no more ticks anywhere it kills fleas and other nuisince bugs to and i think its only about 9 or 10 bucks.
