Armadillo Problems

 / Armadillo Problems #12
I mentioned a few posts ago that my neighbor is our designated plated-possum population control ranger. Well, I was talking to him this evening and he told me he had pumped three 22 cal shots in one late last night. It ran a little ways, then fell over under a tree. He assumed it was dead.
He checked this morning, and it was gone.
Last year, he shot one through the back. It ran away and climbed in a ditch culvert. Neighbor assumed it would die too. Three weeks later, he shot one in his backyard. Lo and behold, it still had entrance and exit wounds in its back from the previous shooting 3 weeks back!
I've ran over them before and heard them skidding on the road as they hung up and bounced under my car. As I check my review mirror, I see them jump back up and take off running for cover.
Tuff critters! Still hate 'em though. They are an alien species to the south....but I guess they say the same thing about us.

So if 22s' don't work very well what about a nice 45? Either ACP or long colt, 38 special if you don't need the high speed thing VS .357 or 9mm. As a youngster I lived in Reno NV. and it seems like you guys down in the southern end don't John Wayne things up to good. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Muskrats up here get anything from a 22 pellet to the 45,woodchucks .223 to the .308. And yes, I make sure of whats past the critters.

Well I have heard of Gator blades, maybe there are Armadillo blades for your rider too. You will just have to mow about 3am as that seems to be their most active time.

I've heard that if you get rid of the grubs, the golphers will go away because you got rid of the food source.

I thought golfers ate at the club house /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Hee hee!!!

Don't have any experience with gophers or armadillos, but it is always a good idea to remove a food source as a start to eliminating pests.

MossRoad,

gophers...golphers....golfers.... You beat me to the punch on this one. How many others had visions of Bill Murray in Caddy Shack.

Ted Night to Bill Murray (groundskeeper): "I want you to kill all the gophers on the course."

Bill Murray: "Sir....if I kill all the golfers on the course then.."

Funny how the mind wanders.

We have a golden retriever and she must be real good at keeping the armadillos away 'cause I have never seen one on our property....or the neighbors...come to think of it, I've never seen one in Massachusetts. She's real good. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Guess I'm no help then. Sorry.

Yep, incidentally, I've played a golf course on the Texas coast with a gopher problem and when you checked in to play golf, they used to give you a handful of bubble gum and asked that you drop a piece in any gopher holes you saw. The claim was that the gophers would eat it, but couldn't pass it and it would kill them. They discontinued the practice after complaints from animal rights activists.

I've also played a course in Oklahoma that had severely damaged greens by armadillos tearing them up at night. I don't know whether or how they solved the problem.

The golf courses around here have mole problems. I had mole problems, but have taken up mole trapping. Two years ago I got 29, last year I got over 50 and so far this year I've got 12. All on our 1 acre property. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

But no armadillos /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
