Armour kit installed - grill guard left over

The armour kit is installed (on a 4700)and has already paid for itself by saving the hood from rocks and brush a couple of times. The old grill guard that I believe was part of the 460 loader package is avaiable to someone if they would want it - send me an email and we will discuss the logistics. woodmnctry@qwest.net

Where did you get your Armor Kit from?

I have a 4600 and after crawling around underneath it draining HST Fluid, etc., I noticed how easy it would be for a rock or something to cause a potential problem. Who makes the kit (JD?) and where did you get it?

It's a JD item available through any JD dealer.

go to the Deere web site. step thru to compact tractors page, then open up the reference to Accessories. lots of stuff listed.
it's amazing how deere seems to operate without any marketing effort. they have a world of green owners out there who would buy lots of add-on stuff if only we knew what's available. deere needs to hire someone from Harley-Davidson or Honda, who fatten their bottom line with loads of accessories/add-on's.

That is so true, Jim. I've only seen one dealer around who does a really good job of that; Reynold's Farm Equipment in Fishers (Indianapolis), Indiana. When you walk in there you know they're a Deere dealer and you know Deere sells a lot more than what's out on the lot.

Bob - the protection kit - unfortunately - does not provide any bottm protection - like a skid plate - this is really needed as there is a whole bunch of stuff down there that could really get clobbered - wish they would come up with a kit for the bottom side of our Green Machines

Thanks for pointing it out, Gary. That's really unfortunate as I agree that there is just too much under there that can get whacked by a rock or something else in the field. Maybe JD will wake up and create one or some third party will create a kit that we can use.

I also spent some time in the accessory area on the JD website. My birthday and x-Mas list are now made out (backup lights, etc...)

I have a 4300 and would love to have a Grill Guard/ I do not yet have a FEL but am considering one/ At any rate, In the woods I have been clearing the brush and tree branches are constantly attacking the front of my baby. What did you have in mind.

I fabricated a skid pan for mine that goes from the front axle to the hitch in the rear. Put flares on it about midway to cover the trans oil filter and all the linkages, brake lines and such. Haven't bent or torn anything since. Very simple to put on and it pivots from the front so is easy to clean. I use mine in the woods quite a bit and a skid pan is escencial.
