Army worms

Does anyone else have trouble with army worms? They have wore us out down here in Fla this year.

Can't say as I've seen them here yet, but they are nasty little buggers from what I've read so far.

We had a very similar pest some years back. I had just planted 100 seedlings and I noticed that my yard was covered with tent caterpillars on the march. One every square foot. I figured it wasn't going to be a good year for plants? Later that morning a huge flock of starlings descended on my yard and cleaned them up. I did not have one tent that year.
Other years, different worms went after my honeysuckles and my spruce. I used a home brew mix of ammonia, dish soap and water. Just spray it on the foliage. Ammonia drops them and any that you miss will get done in by the soap residue on the leaves. I'm not sure how well this idea scales up to agricultural levels. (might not even be legal for safety reasons) Ammonia is nasty stuff to be fogging over a large area. I had less than an acre of yard to control. The mix is good for plants and even makes a great engine degreaser.

when you see armyworms its time to get the spray rig going.liquid 7 will kill them.an ive even heard mixing like 20 gal of bleach to 100 gal of water will kill emm.but i dont know about that.

Rain kept us from cutting and by the time we got good weather the worms were in it so we sprayed the field with pesticide and killed the worms, waited about 4 weeks to try to cut and that was about 1 week to long, had to spray the field again yesterday, hope the weather cooperates in about 3 weeks so we can get one last cutting off of this field, but I'm not complaining about the rain.
