This thread is hilarious.
Farm folk pretending to understand how the retail / wholesale / import / sea cargo and general international supply chain works is like Jeff Bezos pretending to know how farming works.

You're website that sells tools and machinery. You have literally zero stock and drop ship from a manufacturer. Someone orders a machine and you send your PO to the manufacturer. The manufacture tells you 12 weeks because they're out of stock, backordered and still being made in China. You tell your customer 12 weeks.
Now that production is delayed because there is a steel/wood/aluminum/chip/labor shortage. Now 14 weeks.
Now there are customs issues at the port in China. 15 weeks.
Now some ****** got his boat stuck sideways in Suez Canal. 17 weeks.
Now customs decided to ransack your cargo in New York to search for drugs. 18 weeks.
Now the union dock workers in NY are striking for more benefits and time off. 20 weeks.

This is how your 12 week lead time turns into 20 weeks through no fault of the retailers and small businesses. You people crying about how you think retailers are just loving this current broken system because "it's a free loan" have no idea wtf you're talking about. No, we do not get enjoyment from 75% of phone calls being status update questions.

Just because we have your money doesn't mean "we got you." It's as easy as cancelling and getting a refund to buy it somewhere else. Oh wait, you can't buy it somewhere else because THAT ITEM IS BACKORDERED EVERYWHERE 16 WEEKS.
Nothing I love more than when stupid people call up to cancel orders because of long lead times only to have them re-ordered and be put in the back of the line because they were too stupid to realize they can't buy our products on Amazon or anywhere else.

I get complaining about waiting 16 weeks for something. It sucks. I do have a problem with pretending to have a grasp of why you're waiting 16 weeks for something and being so spectacularly wrong because you've been brainwashed by Amazonomics while also condemning every small business in the US while championing Amazon's Chinese crap spamming America saving 2 day prime delivery.

Perhaps you all would prefer if every company in the US removed anything they can't deliver to your door in 48 hours from their catalogs. Maybe then you'd quit your crying.

Wow, welcome to tbn and you turn right to insults.
You're on tbn and not a farmer and yet you somehow believe we're all farmers.... ?
Way to start off.

Wow... You seriously think everyone on here are farmers? You think farmers have time to sit on the internet reading your rants? Most of the people on here are small home/farmsteaders. Most have small utility tractors and "normal" jobs. Myself included. Normal jobs like delivery drivers, welders in fabrication shops, information technology, law enforcement, bus drivers, city building inspectors, etc. We are not all "farm folk" pretending to understand how the retail / wholesale / import / sea cargo whatever..." And we do have a voice. We are consumers, and suppliers. And we know how the chain works. You're so ignorant you assume that if an internet tractor forum (one of the only successful and active forums still online) has an opinion that is not farm related, we are all pretending to understand what we "farm folk" shouldn't?
Way to insult the audience you wish to read your post. (y)

Well, as a customer I tend to rapidly detect BS and walk away.

LOL, makes it hard for me to shop used cars.
Years back my employer had us all take sales training (Dale Carnegy-?) and so I rapidly detect when those techniques are being tried on me, it was all push push for a commitment and close.
Think it was called PSS.

LoL...You're hilarious...!

I don't think you even have a clue how many TBN contributors are both retired and working professionals (doctors and lawyers even), businessmen, contractors, craftsmen, tradesmen, artisans etc., etc and a few "farm folk"... from all walks of life...

Most folks that have reached or are close to retirement age have learned a thing or two and don't need specialized degrees in marketing and global commerce to understand what makes things tick...And can offer an opinion when asked from a consumer's point of view...

FYI...The unspoken creed of TBN is:

Let me digress

Have you ever owned a business - put your hard earned money down and started something?

If not, you should. Try your ideas and see how it goes.

I have been self employed since I was 23 years old... 40 years. Yes, I own my own business; a nationwide General Contracting business, we are licensed in 35 states. I probably pay more a year in insurance than the average Joe makes in a year. So... what would you like to tell me about running a business?

Great post
Yeah we’re all just “farm folk”…..
You know some “farm folk” are very knowledgeable about exporting and importing. Many agricultural products are imported and exported around the world.
As /pine said, there’s a lot of experienced, successful business people here.
Be condescending and you‘ll find out the hard way.

Interesting thread, don't you think? Sometimes I think my opinion is better than yours. I can prove that if I can degrade your opinion. Or your experience. Or your age. Or your location. Apparently, someone may have thought that. To bad. When I retired, I had some extra time. As a result, I volunteered several places. Doing that I learn that if I were a carpenter who built houses all my life, and I volunteered to help build a shop or garage, I was going to have to carry an extension cord around and get a hammer for the guy making the most noise usually carrying a bottle of beer around. Nobody would ask if I know how to use a nailer, or anything else. No one would even bother to ask what my career was. Anyway, just reminded me of that. I guess we all may make assumptions, which increases the percentage of being wrong. Besides, I don't even know what Amazonomics means. Is it like Lowesonomics, Wmartonomics, Internetomics, etc. If I owned a company (which I never have), I would be damn happy to MAKE money. I thought that was the purpose of owning a company, investing everything, and working your butt off all your life - and being scared to death when things went bad. Wow, this is interesting. I better tell my wife to delay dinner, I am busy.
