Kubota BX24
Any of you out there ever used your BX24 to remove, breakup, an old asphalt driveway.

I believe it is about 3" thick.

Do you think the Kubota could do it as well as renting a skidsteer like a Bobcat?

I think it would do it once you got under an edge, lifted and started breaking it up. I'm sure a skidsteer would do a better job just because of the power and size.

Was thinking about tackling that same item with my 23.....Decided to keep what's there and seal coat....My FEL bucket said thanks.

If you decide to tackle this project with your BX24, I would recommend a toothbar if you don't already have one. This should protect the lip of the bucket some.

No, I do not think it will do it as well if your talking about "as quick" as the skidsteer. Yes, I think it will do it as well if your talking about "end result".

Your tractor will make mincemeat of that driveway in about 10 minutes. You could tear it up with a crowbar if you need a few hours of exercize - actually, that would make a good wife-job...

But seriously - asphalt driveways are extremely fragile. Once you get your bucket under an edge, it'll tear up like nothing. Use the curl of your bucket to pop up the sections, and if they're coming up too big, have your wife standing by with a sledgehammer to bash the sheets as they come up - they'll pretty much shatter.

I tried to pull mine up with my loader and tooth bar first but it was coming up in huge sheets and they were annoying to break up and get in the loader. Then, I ran my subsoiler through it on a 96° day in full sun. It went through like butter. Anyway, for me, once it was broken up, it was just a matter of loading it into the dumpster. Went quick.

I'd think I could have done mine with a BX with a subsoiler on a really hot day but I it probably has a lot to do with the temp., condition of the asphalt, and thickness. Mine was probably only 2 inches thick and pretty beat.

You said BX24... That means you have a Backhoe... If you don't get the results you'd like with the loader, the hoe will break it into tiny pieces.
