asphalt shingles vs metal roofing

For us it was a moot point due to cost. While the insurance might pay to replace the roof for cosmetic damage who gets to decide. Me or Them? My luck is that I would have just enough dents that it would drive me nuts and the insurance would not pay off.

Still wish we could have put the stuff up on the roof since I really like the looks of it.....

After using asphalt shingles for years, we made the switch to metal roofing a couple of years ago, starting with my expanded shop and the garage. I'm absolutely thrilled with it! You probably don't get the snowload we get up here, but after years of scraping snow off my rooflines with snow rake I can't begin to describe the joy I feel in having the roof shed snow all by itself! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif And if it sticks...one well placed toss of a tennis ball or a light tap of the snow rake and the entire mass just slides to the ground! Love it!

My only complaint about metal roofing is that I should have extended the dormer roof so rain would fall to the ground instead of dripping so loudly against the first story metal roof. I'm getting used to it now, but for a while it was like Chinese water torture.

ejb - plan to switch the asphalt roof on my camp to metal. One of the main reasons is that I get a large moss buildup on the asphalt shingles and don't think that will happen with metal. Plan to apply it directly to the old asphalt roof.
