When I financed my Deere, I called my State Farm Insurance agent about getting a rider on my policy to cover the tractor. He told me that the rider was no problem, but there was one detail that John Deere Credit would have problems with. He said that they would cover the tractor against any peril that my home is covered for - Fire, theft, wind damage, etc. But it would not be covered if I turned it over. He said that JD would specifically require "upset coverage", which my homeowner's would not include. I ended up going with the policy that JD supplied, which was very affordable anyway. ($200 for 3 years of coverage...)

I keep a $10000 deductible on the home owners to reduce the premium. It isn't worth it anymore to have a smaller deductible. The insurance companies around here raise the premiums after small claims to more than recoup whatever they pay out. So I went with the insurance offered by Kubota with the financing so I could get *full coverage* on the tractor.

I have USAA homeowners for my home, auto and my cabin. The cabin is where my tractor resides and is not my primary residence. I called USAA and asked if the tractor was covered and it is covered for theft, fire, vandalism and most natural type disasters other than flooding. I was skeptical at first but they sent me a copy of my policy with the relevant stuff highlighted. As mentioned by others, it is not covered if off of my property or if involved in an accident while towing it. My auto insurance will pay a very small amount on any towed property damaged in an accident but not nearly enough to cover a tractor. I'm pretty sure it does not cover accidents incurred with tractor use, in other words, if I roll it or drive it into the pond, no coverage.

I've been trying to get an Inland Marine policy but USAA doesn't do them, even through an underwriter and Farm Bureau (etc) won't provide one if my homeowner's policy isn't with them. I'd like the extra coverage but have run into dead ends everywhere I've looked.

I have USAA and you are correct. Off your property (such as being worked on at a dealer) you are not covered for theft, but only for "named perils" (theft is not a named peril with USAA). If you find a solution, let me know. No one will write a Inland Maine Policy unless I have a homeowners with them.

I recently inquired about insurance on my L3130. My Allstate agent informed me that my homeowners insurance would only cover $5,000. For total coverage it would cost me an additional $750 yearly. He said theft was their greatest concern although my tractor is locked in an alarm equipped building on 8 1/2 acres of private property.

If I was in your shoes I would let my fingers do the walking and find another agent/company. There are plenty of better insurance deals out there. Now you haven't told us the whole story re: your insurance coverage, but I would still look around. You will probably find the grass IS greener elsewhere.

USAA said the stuff in my barn is insured for 10% of my total homeowners. 250 K for homeowners = 25k for tractor. Close enough.

Ok, I've been meaning to check with my Insurance agent about this since I got my L2800 HTS and this kicked me into gear. Called them today (Liberty Mutual) and found that if my tractor burned up in my barn I probably didn't have enough coverage to replace the tractor and rebuild the barn, not good. I'm getting an Inland Marine policy through them for ~ $150 / year that will cover fire, theft, rollover etc to the tractor. Thanks for starting this thread.
