So Obed, how was your Easter omelette?
Tororider,
I'm afraid I would pay dearly for that omelette.

The turkey is sitting on the nest now. She's in the nest everytime I take a look. She knows we are around and hasn't abandoned the nest. I hear it takes 28 days to hatch turkeys. I guess my back yard may not get mowed again for the next month.

Saturday I tried to start our push mower that hasn't been used in 2 1/2 years. I couldn't keep it running. I normally run the engine out of gas at the end of the cutting season. However, when I looked in the gas tank Saturday there was a little gas in the gas tank when I looked at it Saturday. I might not have run the engine out of gas 2 1/2 years ago although that would surprise me.

Thus, I drained the gas tank. Then I put fresh gas in the tank, took off the air filter, and sprayed carb cleaner in the carburator and tried to start the mower. The engine would run roughly, speed up, slow down, speed up, slow down, etc. and die within about 30 seconds give or take. I tried this proceedure several times without any improvement. I guess my on-site small engine mechanic will have to take a look at it.

I then raked some grass clippings off the front yard to keep from killing the grass. My little girl played in the yard and in the woods beside the yard while I raked. I really enjoy having her around when I'm working outside. It's need to see how much she likes being outside.

Next I mowed with the riding mower the 2 foot high grass at the entrance to the property at the street.

Obed,

Try some SeaFoam Sea Foam Sales Company in the gas tank. It works wonders. Put some in the tank, crank the engine and let it run for a 30 seconds or so, and then cut it off and let the SeaFoam soak. It will dissolve the deposits in the carb. Mix it pretty strong.

It's kinda expensive, but cheaper than the time it will take removing and rebuilding the carb. I used some in a Pacer irrigation pump that I had left sitting for about a year with gas in it. It worked great! I have also used it in boat motors.

You can buy it at Walmart, Advance, OReilly's etc....

Obed,

Your wife sparked me to try something I had not done before which was rebuild my tillers carb. For me I am mechanically inclined, but scared that if I get jammed up I won't get out of it. It was easy, took a half hour and now purs like a kitten for a 40 year old engine.

Thank her for me.

Obed, I am not sure I will be able to explain this well but I will give it a shot. If you take the carb bowl off the piece that hangs down that would be inside the bowl has a very small hole vertically in it. If you can get a small wire, like off of a wire brush into that hole and run it in there several times you may be able to clear any blockage. On the flip side, I have never heard of that foam and that may be easier to do.

Try SeaFoam at first, and then run it at least once a year at high dose if you dont run it all year at the recomemded level. But if not pull the carb and then blow it out and reassemble, it will get you going. There is something either hung in the inlet needle or the float is sticking or your main jet is partial blocked.

.

Also while you're at it, WD40 all the carb linkages and make sure they're moving freely.

I second the Seafoam idea; I use it in everything from motorcycles and smaller.

We picked up some Seafoam today. Hope it works.

I use stabil in all my small engines to prevent this sort of thing. That said I have slipped at my duties here of late and I tried the seafoam. I can rebuild the carbs and such but the seafoam is much easier. I am all about easy. :D
Father in laws generator was not running without leaving the choke about half on. Put some of the SF in, run it a bit and then let it set a few days. Took care of the problem.
