At Home In The Woods

Obed, While I understand where you are coming from, I will present another angle on this. The purpose of building pallets with sides is not to save time, but to save time in the long run. Anything you do like this will cost you time up front, but will improve handling and productivity in the long run, which is why you do it. And with that said, it is best to do it right so they last. I doubt the sapling thing you were trying to do would hold up for long, even sight unseen. Now if you can get more of those free box pallets, that is a deal you can't beat. They look pretty good.

I have also seen people use metal mesh pallet cubes that are designed to hold sack of materials or other stuff for this. If you can find them reasonably they are great for drying airflow and very durable.
Hmm... You've got me thinking about firewood handling now too. I burn about 3 cords a year so its not an insignificant amount of time to process it and move it into the woodstove from the forest. Loading it all on pallets the moment its split does have its advantages I think. Hmmmm...

Tom,
Can you find out what those containers are normally used for and where your co-worker gets them?

I see these crates with people who work with large liquids. Look for someone who sells 50 gallon drums and they should have these.

They hold either 275 gallon or 330 gallons of XXXX

Saturday morning I woke up and wondered, "What should I wear today?" I went to my closet and carefully inspected my wardrobe. Making certain that you look good while you are working by yourself in the woods is of dire importance. Knowing this truth, I had a difficult time choosing my garments.

Should I prefer the Chartreuse shirt with the obtuse swirls today? How about the dashing beige shirt? Or perhaps the striking grey pinstripes? Then my eyes fixated on the perfect selection. There it was, the BLUE shirt. My face beamed with excitement. I thought, "Man, I look gooood in blue!" So the blue shirt it was. Once I had finally arrived at a decision on my tunic, picking the pants was easy. Of course! I'll wear the GREY pants because they compliment so well the BLUE shirt.

After I donned my apparrel, I strutted in front of the full length mirror like a male peacock parades in front of his potential mate. "Now I'm ready to go out and work by myself in the woods. It's too bad nobody will be able to see me out there because I really am the bomb!"

Obed,
Nice duds!:)
I want to suggest you seriously consider chainsaw chaps for Christmas; Stihl makes some Pro chaps and you could put them on your list.

Also consider a second bar for your saw. Your fashion pic shows wear where the paint is worn off, and the bar could be pinched, or bent slightly, restricting the chain from running freely along the length of the bar.
