Climbing through that small window is a bit tight for me. The ladder I built a couple weeks ago sure helps me get through the window.

Today was a strikingly pretty day. I took some these pictures while on the chimney. We can see the mountains from our living room but the view is better from the chimney top.

Is that window a double hung? If so I would imagine you can remove both top and bottom sash from the window to make it a lot easier to access the roof.

Almost all modern double hung windows have removeable sashes, just tilt the window in like you would to clean the outside then raise one side where it pivots in the window track up while leaving the otherside still. It will allow the window to come out of the track and then you can set it down and out of the way.

This is at least the case with every modern DH window I have installed or dealt with. Some are more of a hassle then others but they all can easily be removed.

Robert,
Yes the window is double hung. However, the tightness is caused by the narrow width of of the window more than the height. I'm mostly just whining. I can get through the window; it's just not terribly easy. If I had had any idea that I would be using that window to climb on he roof, I would have bought a wider window.

It's not a big enough issue to spend any money or effort to change the window as long as I am still able to climb through it. If I do get to the point I can't climb through the window, I could remove the top sash like you suggested.

Obed - another suggestion for future consideration.

Get rubbermaid containers or similar for the objects you have stored in cardboard boxes in the attic. Over time bugs that like to eat paper will show up and enjoy the boxes and any paper products inside them.

I'm just sayin.

Yesterday I wanted to fill my 2 gallon gas can with 100% gas that I will use in my log splitter, mower, and chainsaws. So I poured the ethanol gas that was in the gas can into my car. When the can had about a quart left in it, I had trouble pouring the amount remaining into my car with the no-spill nozzle. I ended up pouring gas all over my hand and the ground. Eventually I was able to empty the gas can and then fill up the can with ethanol-free gas.

Obed--Hi--That cleaning operation went very well :) for you.....I really think the `cap` is part of the soot problem.....Just seems to me that it is constricting the flow of smoke..

Today I was outside plowing a couple of fields, and as the day went on it warmed up a bit...Just beautiful...Everything down here, around Charleston, is just as dead looking as up there, but for some reason, on the shaded side of a couple fields the grass is green..Everything else is just dead looking..The smell of the soil was a joy though....Tony,

Here is a list of stations in Indiana with 100 % ethanol free gas.

Ethanol-free gas stations in IN

Chris

I took a look at it. Just like I said the only places by law as of 2-3 years ago is airports, marinas, and co-ops for off road use. The closest place to me is 90 miles. I just run 100LL aviation fuel in my 2 stroke stuff now. Lawn mower and genny get 10% crap.

They also must have 2% bio in our diesel. Stupid laws made by stupid people. Being a farming state they want to take care of their own.
