Attach a snowblower to yanmar

Hi all. I own a yanmar 324 and try to attach a snowblower on a 3 point hitch.
However, I can’t lift it up more than a inch off the floor.
What’s wrong with my setup? (On the picture the top link isn’t fixed but it has been when I tried to lift it up.) the tractor wants to raise the snowblower higher when the top linked isn’t on, which made me think this part might be the problem?
Tried adjusting so many things…nothing seems to work.

Ok thank you. That’s a good insight since I realised that it’s longer than the arms. Do you think that the best way to test this would be to try to lift it without the pto fixed to the tractor?

Yes, you can test it without the PTO hooked up. The manual for the blower should tell you how to measure and cut the shaft. If not there are several YouTube videos that explain the process.

Thank you so much for your time. Tried it without the pto and problem solved. I will find a YouTube video to find out how to cut it.

Before you cut it decide if you want to maybe get a 3 point quick hitch or Pat's Easy Hitch. They will put the blower further back, and generally make swapping implements easier.

Yep, both will add about 4"...
Disconnect the tractor end of the PTO shaft and raise your 3PH so the blower input stub shaft is in line with the tractor's stub shaft. This is the shortest distance between the tractor and implement.
See if you can connect the PTO driveshaft. If the PTO driveshaft is too long, you won't be able to connect. If it's close, you'll have an idea of how much you need to cut...or if a QH will work due to the 4" additional distance from the tractor's stub shaft to the blower's stub shaft

You will enjoy having the hydraulic chute rotation.

Easy way to find out is rigging another implement with a proper length PTO driveshaft (If Caroline has something) and run the PTO

I have a 70% chance bet that it broke something. OP won't know till they use the PTO.

I remember a couple years ago, a new tractor owner of a L3400 got a bush hog and didn't bother to cut the driveshaft, thinking it was universal. When they went to go lift the implement up, it literally shoved the head of the driveshaft 3" into the rear of the transmission case. I wish I had pictures......

I am afraid you may be right although I hope you are wrong. My hope is that when the OP noticed it they unhooked the top link. That would allow the blower to rotate vs forcing the PTO into the tractor. I figured at this point nothing to lose in continuing to correct the issue and go from there.

Oh no..hope it didn’t brake anything…will cut the pto today and keep you updated. But I keep my fingers crossed…went slowly and didn’t force it when it wouldn’t go up. Didn’t hear any braking sound..

Hopefully all is well. If you don’t have a puddle of oil on the floor, that is good sign #1.

The best distance is one where the telescoping PTO shaft doesn’t “bottom out” before telescoping to the shortest length required (which is usually when the blower is raised to a height where the shaft is horizontal.) Even better if it can telescope another couple inches shorter so that you can attach and detach the PTO shaft at this position.

Yet, shaft(s) needs to be long enough so that the telescoping parts don’t pull apart when shaft needs to be at its longest length. Enough length to not just prevent pulling apart, but still have enough overlap to transmit horsepower without twisting the PTO shaft too. Some might say this is a 4”-6” minimum overlap, depending on horsepower transmitted and shaft size.
Maximum telescoped length is usually when the blower is raised or lowered to its maximum positions. Also note, sometimes if you back an implement over a bank, or push it up a bank, implement is “raised” or “lowered” farther than it normally would be on flat ground using the 3 point hitch. But as long as you cut both pieces evenly for the shortened length, the maximum length is what you end up with and not much to do about.

Once you measure what these distance are, cut shaft pieces. Measure twice or three times though, cut once.

There is no best distance...you need to attach the PTO driveshaft to the blower (but not to the tractor), raise the 3PH so the blower input shaft is as level to the tractor's output stub shaft as you can eyeball
As written before, that's the shortest distance.
If the drive shaft has enough clearance to attach to the tractor's output shaft, you're good. If the driveshaft is too long, it won't be able to connect
This is not something you want to estimate, guess or look up on the internet.

Thanks everyone. Everything seems fine now. Pto runs great no oil and it goes way up. Feeeeww!!! Just need to finish the hydrolic system and ready for snow!
