Tomorrow the new Kubota comes home.

I'm in need of a PHD, and blade at some point soon, already have a 5' Rhino cutter and will trade that up at some point.

As I start shopping for the PHD, box blade and scraper blade, any suggestion as to who makes solid, quality equipment? I see the Rhino, Woods, Landpride, Leinbach names quite a bit on the forum but no real consensus of what's best.

Does it come down to what your local dealer will support and stand behind?

I would take any suggestions on a PHD ASAP - Dealer wants to sell me an Ag-Meier PHD, just never heard of them. ECO44 for $559 out the door - but found it for $60 cheaper down the road.

ED32 & 44 HTML

Appreciate all the help!

The ECO44 only recommends the 6" or 9" auger and uses a 30hp gear box... seems to be lightweight?? If you have a big tractor, not sure if that would void warranty. I got a Leinbach 7200 and other then wishing for a better tip on the bit... works fine and cost $380 (new) in Winston/Salem, NC. How much are you planning to use it?

I'll pop MAYBE 10 holes a year with it...I fully expect it to rust before I use the life out of her. Just fence post here and there, pole barn (15 posts) so not too much.....

I like the Lienbach, might be a good option.

thanks

Brand loyalty??? Be loyal to your wallet! Buy a Leinbach. hard to beat for the $$$.

Look for used. It saves you a bunch. I just bought a Lienbach rb from an individual, unfortunately for him his pto went out, he chose not to fix and sell the blade. When arrived at his place, it was in the garage still strapped to the skid as new never used. $125.00 after pushing and pulling on to my trailer.

What is the land like? Rocks or clay can be hard to dig with a 3ph PHD without down pressure. I like having reverse and the down pressure from the loader like the Danuser mentioned earlier. Costs a lot more, though.

Rocky on the top, sandy/clay at the bottom of the property. I've got the best of both worlds!....My 15 holes or so for the pole barn are pretty rocky, (sandstone) gate and front end posts for the fence are pretty sandy. I was able to sink a 9" utility pole w/o an issue and trenched with a walk behind trencher a few months back as well in the rocky part.

We will see.

Sandstone is probably not too bad. One suggestion, replace the stock teeth with carbide tipped teeth. Made a significant improvement.

I went in half with a friend that needed a few holes dug... Worked out best and he was happy for me to store it indoors at my place :D If you can get it used, go for it. I waited for quite a while for a used one but nothing ever came up... except for the need to dig holes ;)

I like the Befco stuff. I is as heavy as the Woods and Land Pride but cheaper. Not as cheap price wise as the Lbach stuff though. Call me **** but I have never like the "look" of the Lbach stuff. I priced the 200 and 300 series Befco Mole PHD's last week and they were about 900 and 1000 each minus the auger. Add $200 for a 12" auger.

"... never like the "look" of the Lbach stuff..." I just look at the Lbach price tag... I'm not a BIG user so I can get away with it. I would not recommend the 7200 for commerical... instead their L9000 looks like it could handle every day useage. Post Hole Digger

No you are correct, the L9000 looks the part and I have been tempted to go that way. PHD's are the implement that I have been tempted to do "less is more" since they simply don't get used that often. But I am one of those you can never have enough horsepower type of people and therefore after seeing the Befco 512-300 first hand I guess I got stuck on that one some how. I am still some time off before buying (especially after my lime quote I just got today) so perhaps I will change my mind.;)

I won't be spending any more of my money on Rhino (aka Alamo) equipment anymore, that's for sure.
