Attachment repair: Bent 4N1 bucket

Shouldn't your buddy that bent it be fixing it?

Isn't is common place to return equipment as good or better than you got it?

Depends on how good the buddy is.

That's why I only loan my PT out with operator included. ;)

I was very fortunate when my PT broke in half. My neighbor, the heavy equipment mechanic, was behind the wheel. Outside of ordering the parts, he had it fixed in two hours. And much better than before. That was pure luck.. And no, he was not at fault.

I've borrowed a few things from a friend of mine and now he tells people if you want to get something back in better shape then you lent it, to lend it to me. I don't borrow much but when i do, i can usually fix it up a little better then i got it. On the other hand, i really hate to lend anything out to anybody if i can't be there to run it, with one exception. I have another friend that i would not think twice about lending to, if it broke when he used it, he'd fix it and on top of it, he's very conservative with your gear.

Sounds like the bucket was a tad light! Pictures would be helpfull. Yes, I rarely lend anything and then only to people of a similar mindset. These "It's ONLY a tractor" types, need not apply!

The buckets on PTs aren't that light. The problem is the hydraulics and power-to-weight ratio are too big and strong for the size of the machines. You can easily bite off more than you can chew, so to speak.

Just to clarify, my friend test drove my PT and liked my PT so much that he bought himself one. He bent his bucket. :eek:/:ashamed:

As I understand it, the bucket is smiling. I searched over in the Kubota forum, and there were lots of bent buckets. This rather supports MR's point about how heavy duty the PT buckets are, or how light the Kubota buckets are or...

The shade tree mechanic solution that seemed to be prevalent in that forum was to get a 20T jack, an I-beam and some heavy chains. Taking it to a metal shop, cutting off the blade, bending the bucket and blade separately, and then welding them (or a new blade) together had its adherents, as did taking it to a frame repair shop.

Go Tractorbynet! You are a great resource.

All the best,

Peter

(And yes, I have encouraged my buddy to join the forum.)

Oh, well, if its his bucket that is bent and not yours, I'd suggest beer, chains, jacks, a welder, a torch, beer, repeat. :D
