Attachments for trail maintenance?

When I was doing work on the ATV and other use trail, like said, a box blade and at times a rock bucket for the FEL would have made it easier, faster..
But then that was implements I didn't need for other purposes, so not worth spending money for just that application..

That's the way it is on a lot of my projects: the best tool for the job is the one I already own.

Bucket, grapple and mower. I have seven miles of trails that I built and this is essentially what I use.

That looks very impressive and seems to be working quite well in that location.
It will not work in the OP's area his ground is not that nice soft sand that flows through the rock bucket,
his is going to be cloddy heavy soil with rocks not only on top but also buried half way and he will have many larger then those in the video.

I maintain about 17 miles of dirt bike trails on my property. Very hilly and very rocky, 60% single track that would be very difficult for an ATV. We like them tight, so there's no way I'd use my tractor on them. But for my access trails for ATVs and such, the problem is stumps and big roots that will stop my 55 horse tractor. Scarifiers or disk harrows wouldn't touch the rocky land I have. For those kinds of trails, I think you'd want to rent a dozer and make a level bed first.

In my experience, when loggers leave the stumps, they are a real pain to deal with for years and years.

To remove big holes from my fields, I use my 6 foot box blade with scarifier shanks. I have to keep a supply of replacement shanks handy because occasionally rocks or petrified roots will snap them.

I'm kinda into sportbikes, too. ;)

Heavy box blade. Reinforce a lite one if needed. Need rear weight for FEL work. If working in the woods, width is not your friend with any implement. Don’t go much beyond your rear wheel width.

Piranha toothbar. Really helps weaker tractor loaders dig and remove roots and brush. Biggest bang for the bucks.

Hard to beat a grapple on a loader for pushing, clearing, carrying and dealing with tree debris or rocks. Sure beats picking up and handling by hand.

Any rotary cutter is going to see severe service for trail maintenance. Heavy built narrow beats wide and flimsy. Slip clutch on driveline.

Like any extreme sport, trail maintenance tests your abilities and equipment. Best tool? Between your ears. Work safe, work smart and build on your experience.
