cub cadet/Yanmar sc2450
Hi Folks,
have sc2450 - and know nothing about attachments.

I have 1/4 acre of what will be garden and 3/4 of what will be grass.
I am thinking I need a small 40-48 inch tiller for long term use in the garden and inital prep for lawn.

I am consiering getting a PTO tiller but have a bunch of questions that I have yet to find answers to online.

I am surprised at how much trouble I am having finding specific info on what tillers are appropriate and compatable with my tractor.

I would have expected to be able to go to one of the dozen sites I have been on and search for my model or specificaitons and get a list of tillers. But I have not had any luck.

Quesitons
Does the fact that I have a 3ph mean I can hook up any 3ph attachment?
Are there standards for the attachments/3ph and PTO linkage or is it custom per tractor?

Cadet's site and info do not have a tiller attachment referenced.
Do they simply just not make one or is it that the model of tractor can't support it?

Does the horsepower of the tractor limit my selection?
what do I need to consider? PTO Linkage?

does anyone have any recommendations for tillers for use with my sc2450?

Ideall looking for used one...

Thank you!

The most common for smaller tractors is a CAT 1 3 point. Match the impliment horse power specs to you tractor.

If you have a TSC farm store, this is a great sorce for low cost implements, check there web sight.

I would start by going to you cub cadet/yanmar dealer, get their brocures. Talk with dealer. Leave check book at home. Read up on the tiller from cub cadet. Then go shopping.

Answers (or opinions :)):

>a 3PH on that tractor will allow any CAT 1 implement to be attached.
>there is a standard for 3PH measurements and PTO shaft configuration/attachment.
>the HP of the tractor does limit what implements can be used.

With 16.5 HP at the PTO the tractor should be able to run any 48" tiller. Something larger would be too much.
Used tillers are being sold for a reason - finding the reason after you buy is usually cause for extreme disappointment.

Inspect the tines for wear, make sure the drive shaft/tines rotate without noise, same with the gearbox (on top of the tiller), check out the PTO shaft to make sure it is not damaged, a slip clutch is an advantage but needs to be adjusted and tested yearly, nothing should be loose or wobbly or rattling, check the gearbox oil for presence and color (not milky). Try to get the seller to allow you to test it before purchasing.

OR, as others have described, go to Tractor Supply and get a new King Kutter or Countyline tiller. $1500 may seem like a lot but it will work, will have a warranty, and not need immediate repairs.
