If you are looking for a new mower, I highly recommend the Rhino brand. Mine has over 8,000 hours on it and it is still running strong.

flatheadlake..... one post indicated JD has a I-hitch(?) linking system.... if you plan to use this system, there may be some benefit to buying the JD implements.... you would have to check... I don't know enough about this system. A benefit to buying JD would be being able to finance it in with the tractor, if not you will come out of pocket with cash (or credit card) or go through another credit check to finance. These are the only "specific resons" I can think of to buy JD attachments over others (possibly cheaper).

I'm sure JD offers implements that they are willing to stand behind, but to Gatorboys point, which some seemed to miss is that there are other implement manufacturers that build quality products and that in his opinion are better than JD and may cost less than JD.

As Gatorboy was pointing out, there are implement manufacturers that manufacture only the implments and in his opinion are better built. He didn't imply the JD stuff was sub-standard or "inferior" in the context presented by other posters. That makes as much sense as people trying to sell you on JD attachments for your CUT based on experiences with commercial high dollar attachments... totally 2 different categories.... apples to oranges.

I think if you stick with the name brand attachments, you will probably come out less expensive in the long run. Good luck and let us see a pic of the new tractor /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My John Deere rototiller is I believe made by Howard it is a heavy built tiller and my scraperblade is a very well built blade.I had have a JD 513(discontinued) rotary mower that is lightweight,I had to do lots of work to reinforce it and it is a good mower now. The new JD brush hogs and Frontier implements look as good as anything else out there.

I just know that they aren't one of the better brands .

This whole thing is such a hoot!

Folks, do research, talk to owners and LOOK closely. Each of the quality brands has features that might benefit you.

After lots of research, I found that the Deere mower WAS the best deal. I did look at BushHog, LandPride and Rhino. None was cheaper. None was better and none touched Deere for service.

At first look, all the competing machines look very similar. But in real life it is pretty evident that there are differences. I got to try most at my land. All I can report, is that, of the mowers that I tried, the Deere cuts as well as any, and it flies!

But your mileage might vary!! A differant brand might offer features that are perfect for your needs. That's ok.

I can think of two reasons. 1. Quality. Deere does not sell junk. 2. Dealer support. You know Deere will be around and you will be able to find parts for that machine for many years.

( I believe John Deere buys their mowers from someone else -- I could be wrong. They are not in the mower business, but they mainly carry them for people who buy a JD tractor and want a JD mower. )

Just to set the record straight. You are incorrect. John Deere DOES build their own mowers at their factory in Welland, Ontario. They are in the mower business, and not just for the people that buy their tractors. I have an MX7 and it does a great job. There is a reason they are the #1 farm equipment supplier in the world.
