Looking for an ATV spreader for fertilizer. Which ones are better than others and why? From what I can tell, Earth Way seems to make a pretty good one. Would you go with tow behind or mounted? I'm favoring mounted on the front rack.

I think they all can be good. The larger the capacity the better i think. I think moultrie makes one that will hold almost 2 bags worth of seed, may be a different brand but i think it was moultrie?

cord,
hate to be a stick in the mud . . . . but here goes, fertilizer can be caustic to painted metal frames. for longevity i'd look for a stainless frame. i've owned earth way spreaders in the past, and due to my laziness in not cleaning them thorouughly, they rusted and became inoperable.
i learned from some heavy equipment operators to coat the exposed parts in diesel fuel . . . now they tell me! i was also talked out of a front mounted spreader for the front of my kubota bx (caustic materials / salt & fertilizers, once again).
i mentioned in a previous post, i need to powder coat the tph parts that are not already stainless. hind sight is 20/20 . . . i should have gone with a "HERD, rear mounted spreader" they make a model for your atv.
good luck and good hunting

I have a rear mounted one,it works great but the pain part is the u-bolting it off and on. The father-in-laws has the trailer one with the bigger tires it also works good if your not gonna stop cause its a long reach back to turn it off,it also bounces around alot back there,so I prefer the rake mounted over it. The rack mounted is also 12v.,other is ground driven.

I have a old cyclone electric spreader that mounts on my fourwheeler. But it doesn't have that little wire adjator in the hopper that my pull behind ground drive unit has. And it had a little problem spreading fertilizer and a lot of problems spreading pelleted lime.

Its a lot nicer having the spreader mounted on the front. Where you can see how much is left in the hopper see the spread pattern and how thick it is spreading and turn it on easily.

I have a 1 1/4" receiver welded on my front rack and when I get my spreader I'm going to put a hitch on it so I can just slide it in and pin it.

Herd for me! I've used mine on my 550 Mule, 3-pt disk & now use it on my JD 420.

Just clean it good after use & a light coating of oil before storage when using fertilizer. ~~ grnspot
