can I change the size of my atvs tires without changeing the rims? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif My tire size is: 25-11-10, so can I change the second number to say 10 or 12 and so on. Thanks in advance. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The 25 is the outside diameter of the tire inflated.
One of (11 or 10) is the rim size while the remaining # is the 'fattness' of the tire.

For sure the rim size needs to be the same.

If a 4 X 4 then all tires must be same .

Changing the fattness of the tires generally will also change the overall outside measurement and might not clear fenders or might rub on something else.

Fatter will give a wider footprint and possibly better traction.

The dealer generally knows what optional tires will fit OK.

Also a bigger tire will change torque curves.
Bigger will result in less acceleration and maybe a bit more top spead but also harder on the engine. (all marginally so)

Yea, I believe so. It has been a couple of years since my bayous need rubber so I am trying to remember exactly. The first # is the how tall the tire is, the 2nd is the width, the last is the rim. I went up on the rears of my bayous. I think it was stock 22-10-10 and I went to 23-11-10. With the current gearing this was a change for the better. It had a deep! granny, but now first seems just right. It might not work to go taller if your tow though. I went wider (middle #) to help from keeping the rims from geting dinged up and cought on trees and rocks (I do alot of tight trails and then rockcrawling). I bought from 2 differnt places online, the prices were much better then local, I had to go with 2 because the bayous have a smaller less common front tire.
Good luck, Dave

You can change the first two numbers, and keep the same wheels so long as:

you have power to turn the bigger wheels 26" vs 25"

The tires will fit your rim width.

You have clearance for both width and height once mounted. Be sure to check suspension, frame etc. Turn the bars both ways while checking and don't forget clearance once the suspension compresses. Generally one inch either way will work. But be sure to check as you may not be able to return the tires once mounted.

Also to note: different tire brands measure differently than their advertised height. example 25" bearclaws are closer to 23 than 25. You can usually get the specs on the tire mfg website.
