Aussie Fire

I just read an article that said some people are blaming the government for not clearing the land or even allowing people to mow the fields. The amount of fuel for the fire was intentionally left there instead of clearing it to stop this sort of thing from a happening.

National Parks service has locked up all the forests , not allowing graziers to run cattle in them anymore . The cattle used to keep the scrub down by way of eating the grass and trampleing the brush . The graziers would let cool fires trickle through and keep it tidy , the Koalas would just sit in the trees and watch the 3' high flames trickle past . Now because of all the fuel deposits that have built up they are engulfed by 100' tall flames , flames fueled by the people charged with protecting the animals , National Parks . Logging is all but stopped which used to keep the forests thinned out , preventing crown fires . Logging tracks used to allow fire crews to access remote fires and put them out before they turned into monsters . More and more people are building close to these parks , but they need special permision and have to go through all the Red tape and pay fees to clear some scrub , so people do'nt bother . All these over educated idiots are the biggest problem we have , they have all the initials after thier names but not one ounce of common sense between them .

Glad you are out of the danger zone Iron Horse. At least we aren't the only ones that have the clueless experts that moved into town just in time to save us! Sure hope the weather turns and some rain heads down there.

Dang, I read stories that said the government had not allowed land clearing to prevent, slow down, or minimize fires. I was hoping that was not true. The Chuckle Heads living in the cities making the rules for those living in rural areas need to mind their own business.

The Chuckle Heads are taking over my county....

It gladdens my heart to know your thoughts and prayers are with these people . We have been getting good rain today , but i am 900 miles from the fires . I just hope they get some and put an end to this ravenous monster .

Just been to my farm in sth west Australia for the first time since the Victorian tragedy. I don't know why but I had this uncontrolable urge to push over a lot of trees that have grown in my (neglected) firebreaks. I think this will be a reminder to many that fire breaks need to be cleared regularly.

This will be one of my big jobs this wet season when I can burn off the downed trees and remove many more that are too big for the mighty L4400.

Just an update, expected death toll from Feb. 7th fires will be some where around 210 > 230 people ( victim identification crews still searching burnt out buildings), around 2900 homes have been lost , around 4000 sheds, not including timber mills, schools, police stations and other major structures, around 402900 hectares burnt.
We have had 400 hec fire burn to within 1 mile from us on what would be called a warm day !. although we have had 30 mm of rain in some areas and it was enough to slow the current fire so they can be managed and should be classed as contained this week, we still have another 5 weeks of summer to contend with.
