Our gate is 900+ feet from the home. The telephone company hooked it up with an underground line from a telephone stub along the main road that was only about 30 ft away.
These systems run from basic single home units starting around $500 and can go up to a couple thousand for multi home units with color digital displays. I believe ours was around $800-$900. May need to have an electrician set it up unless you are comfortable with the wiring involved.
