Re: Auto\'s

A lot of 4x4's for no reason but style/looks. My wife wants to get a 2wd crew cab shortbed Ford or Chevy 1/2 ton, used. But, they are almost impossible to find! They make sooooo many 4x4's! And, most never get any further off the road than the peoples driveway.

As a data point, we have:
'01 Dodge Cummins 2500 series Ram, long bed 4x4 quad cab
'93 Jag xj6
For fun, toss in '83 and '93 Harley FXRS's.

How true. But here in snow country, I wouldn't be without the 4X4. If they would just offer traction control on trucks, I'd save the $$ & fuel milage hit and get a 4X2.

Seems that automakers are wising up to the fact that people are looking for all-road suvs not off road, and have begun to drop the low range. Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander etc.. Wife has a Pilot - Very happy with it.

Re: Auto\'s

My wife's last three vehicles:
2003 Infinity G35 coupe (current)
2000 BMW 528
1997 Lexus ES300

My last three vehicles:
2004 F-150 (current)
2000 F-150
1996 F-150

Wife says I'm boring. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In the suburbs around here, most of the wives drive an SUV, and the husband drives.....a different colored SUV.

Re: Auto\'s

I would not want a 4 x4 vehicle without low range. I use it on my truck and our Discovery on a regular basis.Too many times I need the ability to crawl.

Re: Auto\'s

I use my 4x4, not a lot, but do use it. Sometimes it is a fun snow trip, otheres it is working out in wet stuff. We have the car, and the truck. My brother, never uses 4x4, and has a full size Bronco and Suburban. Too boot, the Suburban has those 20" street tires on it /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Re: Auto\'s

My last 3 vehicles have been

1996 Ford F250 4WD diesel
1995 GMC Sierra 2500 4WD diesel
1991 Nissan pick up 4WD

In those years as an extra vehicle I had a Jeep and an Isuzu Rodeo

My wife has 2 mini vans as her last two vehicles but this time around she said she wanted a truck. We looked at the Nissan both Titan and Frontier and the Explorer Sport Trac but she decided on an F150 super crew. I must say she choice wisely. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Auto\'s

What inspired this question was yesterday i took the German lad to the national motor museum. This museum is a massive collection of cars and motor bikes from all over the world collected by individual Australians. The bulk of the collection is from early 1910s to about 1980s but with some later models. I regret not taking my camera because i could have shared some pic with you all
There were a few super fast Australia cars of the 70s, bought back old memories, GTHO and the Monaro which the later was my favorite.

Re: Auto\'s

Come on Robert......its all about the Bling Bling and I bet that Suburban handles a lot better with 'em!

Our used car lot looks like....
95 Dodge RAM 2500 4wd v8 auto (not sure why we still have this other than to get the odd load of DG, etc)
02 Camry (wifes car)
95 (?) Geo Storm (still works, costs nothing to run and cant sell it for anything....will run it into the ground while using it to get around town)
02 Dodge RAM 2500 HO Diesel 4wd 6spd (only for hauling horses)
30 Ford coupe. Got it from my 93 year old Grandfather. 30 years ago it was one of the first cars I drove when I was learning to drive. Prior to that I can remember rolling down brick roads into town grinning like an idiot sitting in the rumble seat on a fine spring day with the sun on my face and the wind in my hair. Good memories.

Re: Auto\'s

This was the year of the car:

2004 Infiniti FX35
2004 Dodge 1500 Hemi
2004 Audi A6 2.7T S-Line

All of them 4x4 or AWD. I got tired of walking up my driveway in the winter.
