AUX Light Question Please advise

/ AUX Light Question Please advise #21
Gents I have a BX25. Does anyone have any words of wisdom for me
regarding making my electrical system more robust? I "think" it is
a 40Amp Alternator. If I find an alt that produces more do I need
to change maybe the Voltage Regulator and or other parts?

TIA!

I believe your regulator is internal to the alternator. If you did decide to install a larger alternator, I think the only wiring you would need to change would be the output lead from the alternator to the battery. Sometimes the pulley needs to be enlarged if you use a alternator intended for a gas engine, because the diesel operates at lower RPM. Usually the most difficult part of the change is brackets, pulley alignment and available space. GM alternators are commonly used in alternator upgrades.

Unless you are adding lots of lights, I don't think you need to do anything. I mounted lights on struts connected to my loader frame. I did this because the loader bucket blocked the headlights and caused glare. I installed a switch that would turn off the factory headlights and turn on my "plow lights". I had the light I needed with no increase in load. Since diesels don't require an ignition system, all the alternator needs to supply is aux. loads.
Autos had 36A alternators for years.
Good luck in whatever you decide to do.
