This season looks like it will be better than the last. Tough work for sure, after a show I am ready for a hot tub and a cold one..

Since Melvin is working the yarder for Pihl, his logging company (Stump Branch) must have gone out of business. I didn't see the first episode, perhaps they mentioned this.

Did anyone see the episode where the log/tree flew into the cab like a javelin, took out the windshield and was about a foot away from taking off the operators head.

We watched an episode last year and Melvin was swinging that ball and cable around and trying to launch it down the hill. It kept going everywhere but where he wanted it to. My older daughter was in the other room and heard all the bleeping bleeps and came into the room and sat down and watched it with me. We laughed pretty hard. Them were some choice words. :)

Personally I could do without the 'Aqua Loggers' or whatever they call themselves. That guy is just a smuck running his mouth and verbally abusing his kid. It got so bad last year that I would just fast-forward through their parts on the show (generally watch this recorded on my DVR).

I agree he did seem quite harsh on his son, And I assume if he is like that to family. OMG Id not work long with him. Some love was shown once, so i wonder how much was for drama. I thought that team was being replaced with the new guy "swamp man" but the next show they both team up.
Like the new episodes, One guy has no front teeth, and explained how he lost them on a fishing boat. I said to my wife you'd think he have replacements paid for by workers comp and she said he probably does but not wearing them makes for a better character.
I see allot of similarities with Ice Road truckers, they seem to try to have a character that we would associate with.I dint think the show could hold my interest let alone run several seasons. But they have.

If it weren't for the machines, I wouldn't even watch these people because it certainly has a smell of "reality TV" to it. I think "Swamp Loggers" is much better only because they show more of the machines.

Yeah it's all a bit staged for my liking.....Got to make it interesting havent they..???

According to Melvin in a radio interview at the end of Dec, there's no staging. Last year, he and his Stump ranch crew were initially very aware of the camera crew then concluded they couldn't work like that and decided, for all intents and purposes, to ignore them.

The aqua logger needs a brain worse than the scare crow on The Wizard of Oz. I debated about not watching itbut the swamp logger looks the best and I really like to watch Jay browning being a great logger. I didnt much care for his sons fit throwing. The aqua logger showed how big a fool he was Last year with the TD9 and winching the log up the bank. He should have backed up to the slope and winched in a direct line or put a header log to let the cable run up and not digthe log in.
And the father and son with te greenhorns the way he cusses everyone would probably be horrifically injured by a chainsaw operator. Ill have to catch last weeks episode this comming week I had to work in the shop when it was on. I caught that stump branch had another man running his outfit while he was away. Hands down the swamp logger looks to be the real theing with the old B&E crane on the barge and the pontoon skidder. Jay browning is also the favorite to because he knows what hes doing and doesnt make a scene.

The problem with all those shows is the whiny complaining between employees ... or it's about the rookie, greenhorn etc...not going to cut it...etc.et.al.
...doesn't matter if they are crabbing on the Bearing Sea or drilling for oil or hauling logs off a mountain...it's all the same...just "office politics" (in the field though)...
