B-17 Lost at CT Airport

A vintage World War II plane crashed and erupted into flames on Wednesday morning at Bradley International Airport, just outside of Hartford, Connecticut, authorities said.

"We can confirm that there was an accident involving a Collings Foundation World War II aircraft this morning at Bradley Airport," according to an airport statement.

"We have an active fire and rescue operation underway. The airport is closed. We will issue further updates as information becomes available," the Bradley airport statement said.

The FAA said the craft was a Boeing B-17 and it went down at the end of Runway 6 at about 10 a.m. It was not immediately known how many people were on board.

I remember I think it was Alaska, a restoration group found I think a B17. they got it running, and on their last test before a flight, it burned completely, the cause?. they didn't replace the rubber fuel lines to the APU in the back of the plane!!.. you can't trust rubber that old!.. maybe that's what happened here?.

Pretty sure, those are the same lines JD used on our tractor. WWII Cloth covered rubber. lol

ALL WRONG!
There was a B-29 lost in a fire, but it was in Greenland...Not Alaska!
This was NOT a B-29!
It was a B-17 belonging to the Collings foundation.
Collings is a non profit, that flies WWII military A/C around the USA for public display/enjoyment.

That one had to have hurt, especially from the guys who had just restored it.

Actually, the crane didn't drop it. The operator had his stick extended too far and not enough vertical and the plane overcame the lift ability of the machine. Happens all the time when an operator is inexperienced.

There is a classic similar one of a crane with jib way out, lifting a hot tub into a back yard over a house.
