I saw the Golden Girl at Trenton NJ a few years ago. Very nice plane. Really lumbers to take off and gain altitude.

They have since renamed & repainted it. Now it's "Dragon & His Tail". I'm not real keen on the new scheme but, it's not my plane.

Thanks for bringing back the memories of when I wasn't making tractor payments & buying attatchments & actually had a couple of $ in my pocket to do these things.

The USAF Thunderbirds are going to be at the Wings Over Houston airshow in late October. They were supposed to come 2 years ago i think and they were grounded due to weather. The Blue angels did the same.

( Gained even more respect for the WWII vet's who flew in them. I also understand why a lot of men went down with the ship when hit. )

jfh230, thanks very much for the photos and story. My late dad flew in the B17 as a waist gunner during WWII. He was a member of the "LUCKY BASTARDS CLUB" as he flew 30 missions. He actually received a 'diploma' type award indicating his membership to the club. I believe crew members of the 17 only had to fly 20 missions but he survived 30. So so proud of him. I found out after his death that his plane made a crash landing into **** occupied Belgium. Never did find out how he got outta there. I do have a small notebook that he kept of all his missions indicating weather, bomb load, target, etc. Once thing I do remember is he said that if the plane ever got hit, hit enough to make it go down, everyone on board agreed to try to crash land than to parachute out. I guess until it happens you don't know for sure what you would do. Some of his records indicate many, many hits from e/a (enemy aircraft), lost engines, but what they hated the most was the flak. And to think I'm a little scared to fly in a commercial jet. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif They were all so brave. Again thank you for the photos and story. Stanley

It was the Yankee Lady from the Yankee Air Museum in Michigan.

Just before sunset this evening a large plume of smoke appeared in the sky. Sounds of helicopters were heard nearby. The evening news was on with live pictures of the Yankee Air Musuem engulfed in flames. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Don't know what all was inside. You could see many of the airplanes parked outside of the musuem hanger. Don't know if any of the planes were inside at the time of the fire but the entire building was engulfed in flames.

See attachment.

The late news just reported the B-17 (Yankee Lady) and two other planes were inside the hanger when the first signs of smoke appeared in the rafters of the wood hanger. The three planes were rolled out by hand just before the building was entirely engulfed in flames.

The other two aircraft that were saved from the hangar were a B-25 and a C-47.
There was also a rare aircraft that was lost, but I can't remember what it was. It was being reconditioned, and I believe that it was very close to be completed.
