Snow B-7800 & B-2910 snow blower

Our road is about 1/4 mile long with a large culdesack at the end. He starts pretty wide, right now I think the road is about 20-25 feet wide. It really doens't get too narrow. And we are talking a road, not a drive way. I live on the culdesack end and I have a large pile of snow pushed into my yard. It does gradually shrink, you just have to push it as far as you can as it builds back. You have an advantage in being able to design the layout of your driveway/parking area. You'll just need to take into consideration where you are going to put the snow.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for buying a tractor, but I think you could get by with a plow though.

Take the advice of another poster and find out what the locals do. Munising gets more snow that we do here. Yoopers are not rich people. I doubt many have dedicated tractors for snow clearing.

One last thought. 3 feet of snow does not drop in one load. You can go out and plow when the fisrt foot drops.

Hi Kipper,

You've given me something to think about! A truck/plow combination would save me a pile of money since I've got to have a truck anyway. I know most yoopers don't have much money and believe me I'm going to fit right in. Having worked down here in troll land I have gathered some money together and could buy a tractor dedicated to snow removal but after that I'll be struggling to get by just like everyone else up there.

I know the people in Munising use old beater pickup trucks with a plow and others use walk behind blowers but they're also smart enough to have a VERY short driveway. Maybe the first season I'm up there I'll hire a local with a pickup to plow my drive and see how it goes.

I understand they don't get 3 feet all at once but I figured with pushing snow you'd end up with mountains and BY March when there IS 3 feet on the ground and all these mountains from plowing it'd be a serious problem because how'd you push the mountains back if needed when there's 3 feet on the ground behind 'em? I guess planning is everything so if you start wide enough it could work!

All in all though there's several advantages of a pickup with a blade over a tractor.

1) Saves money! Since I need a pickup anyway with a relatively small increase it could clear the snow
2) One less piece of equipment to maintain
3) One less piece of equipment to break
4) If I come home from a trip to Marquette and the driveway needs clearing I'd just put down the blade and plow.
4) No worries about how to get a tractor to the dealer if needed
5) No storage issues

Hmm...

I want to thank you Kipper for opening my eyes to another possible solution to my problem!

I also want to thank all the fine people on this forum for responding to my questions! What a fine group of people there is here! I also would like to apologize to Kenta, the original poster, for taking over his thread. That certainly wasn't my intention!

Happy holidays to you all,
Ray

Kenta I thought about blowing backwards on my 600' driveway. My back's not the best either. What decided me was I get big icy plow mounds from the town , 2'+ after a moderate snow, and i wanted the FEL to clear that. Price was a bit of a factor too /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
