Mahindra 2565 with hoe, Case 530 back hoe, Hyundai180 LC-3 excavator. Love my Hoe's!
I recently got a 2565SC with 75B backhoe on it. I have been operating an excavator with controls where the boom is on the right lever and the stick is on the left lever (ISO CONTROLS). The 75B has the stick on the right lever and the boom on the left lever (SAE CONTROLS). The backhoe is a rebadged Bradco 609 I am told. After looking at the parts manual for the Bradco it seemed like an easy switcharoo of hoses to swap boom/stick operation. Maybe a swap of a couple pressure relief valves and I would be good to go. After looking at the Mahindra parts manual there is the addition of the "float" function on the boom circuit. I guess if I do the hose swap then the float will be on the stick apposed to the boom. I have run a few backhoes for quite a few years and have never heard of a float on a backhoe. Has anyone tried this hose swap with any luck or maybe no luck at all? And could someone explain to me what the purpose of a float on the boom circuit is for. I have never had a problem finding the bottom of a trench. Thanks in advance.

I suppose floating the boom could be useful while lashing the machine down to a trailer. With the bucket on the deck, it would prevent a closed boom hydraulic circuit from becoming part of the "load" while tightening up the binders, thus eliminating the chance of subsequent leakdown causing the load to loosen.

If I ever got a hoe with the boom on the right, I'd be switching it back to the way yours is. Can't imagine reprogramming that hard earned muscle memory.

I understand the problem. I grew up on backhoes and came to be a pretty good operator. A can't make an excavator do what I want much less be a proficient operator. It should be a simple hose swap on the backhoe. I've never seen a backhoe with float, and can't see a good use for it.

I always just tied mine down with the boom in the air and lowered it once I got the machine tied down. I doubt it matters much anyway. There'd be enough slop in the system to make up for tire squat.

You could plumb in a pattern switch, every excavator I've ever used has them. Never seen a tractor with one.

My old Max 25 had float on the backhoe and I think my current 1526 does too. I think I remeber reading somewhere it was for short arm bachoes to aid in cleaning the bottom of a ditch. Level the bucket, engage the float and draw the bucket back.

Dumb/not so dumb question??? You say this is a "rebadged Bradco 609"....if I remember correctly, the 6 series Bradco's were for skidsteers like Bobcats...the 5 series were for tractors...(I have a 511 Bradco for my Mahindra 6000...). Not sure if this would make a difference on the "float" thing...My 511 does not have float...BobG in VA

I can see that working, grading a trench bottom. I hope a dealer or two might chime in about the pattern swap. But there might be "liability" issues. Although we could mask their identity and scramble their voice. Maybe even a witness protection program.:confused3:
