Kubota B7800 4/wd
B series Backhoe , I have heard about 4 point QA & QA w/ full mount sub frame w/ appropriate loader. One dealer rep told me they will not sell any 3 point backhoes implements. Can someone please enlighten me with the different choices. What would be the best fit for a 2005 B7800? Thanks in advance for all replies.

No expert here but you don't have to be to know the 3Point backhoes will rip the tractor apart - They are convenient but the 3point hitch isn't designed to handle the forces and the tractor frame (good backhoes come with their own strong subframe) is not designed to handle the forces of the backhoe. My dealer said he has seen a 3 point hitch backhoe literally break a tractor in half.

were any upgrades made to the frame of the newer B series? Is the sub frame part of the BH attachment or is that part of the tractor frame. How about the seat? Do the newer models have a swivel seat? How would a seat work on the older models 2005 w/ the BH attachment?

I've had both frame mount and 3pt backhoes and done a lot of work with both. I can understand the dealer's reluctance to sell 3pt backhoes. They are handy, but tractor 3pts just aren't built to handle backhoe forces. I used the 3pt hoe a lot, but it was a small compact on a big Ag tractor and it still stressed the tractor. If there is any way you can swing it, then I recommend buying the type of aftermarket backhoe that comes with it's own full subframe for your tractor.

Alternatively, if you are bound to use a general 3pt BH then my advice would be to get a hoe that is a size or two smaller than you would use with a frame mount. It will still be enough to throw the tractor around.
If I can't talk you out of a 3pt BH (after all, I bought one myself) then be SURE to get a brand that includes a 3 pt lower arm locking brace and use that brace religously. Yes, I know the brace can be a job to fit up each time. The brace is a piece that extends off the back of the BH and clamps the lower three point lower lift arms firmly so that the BH cannot rotate in those ball joints at the end of the 3pt lift arm universal eyes. There are several types of these clamps and even the small ones are tremendously heavy and stout. Arm clamps add a lot of rigidity and safety to a 3pt BH, but it still won't save your tractor.

I have a B3030 with a Woods BH80X backhoe and it uses a subframe which woods makes to fit the different tractor models. I can take the BH off in litterally less than 10 minutes and the subframe stay's on the tractor. Mine has two seats, but I believe some models use a swivel seat. I like the Woods BH because it's the same for all brands of tractors just different subframe and colors, this makes parts easier to get.

I don't know about any of the specific model numbers or anything (I run a 9' Woods on an 'L'), but a friend of mine has a new B26 TLB. That machine comes with nice 4pt Kubota BH w/ I think around an 8' digging depth. That machine is close in size to your B7800 and I suspect that BH would be perfect for it. Short of that, any subframe-mounted hoe in the 7.5' class would work.

As for 3pt mounts, my backhoe would tear the back of my tractor off instantly if it was mounted like that. I don't know how anybody uses those things. As it is, my 'hoe throws my L4200 around like a piece of tissue paper if I'm not careful.

Logan,
My new to me B20, came w/ a backhoe as standard equipment. Before I could use the hoe I had to fix the PTO and differential. To get to that stuff I had to dismantle the arse end of the tractor. To do that I had to dig my way through the sub frame for the backhoe. Oy! LOTS of 14 & 19 mm bolts, I'll get around to counting how many one of these days. Also LOTS of heavy bracing and hoe attachment assemblies. In short, ;'>, given what Kubota put on the tractor to satisfy their estimation of dealing w/ the stresses expected from the BH, a three point version, one without a subframe would not be anywhere near as robust as a true subframe mounted hoe.

It could be instructive to read the disclaimers of the various after market BH makers in regards to collateral damage to the tractor itself.

You might want to consider, if you really want a strong, functional BH,
looking for different model of tractor. One that comes w/ the BH as part of the manufactures package.

Oh yea, I dug my first couple of stumps last week. Cool! Big learning curve in making the BH dance though. Which lever does what, etc....

Have fun,
Dennis

I have a 4 pt quick mount bh80x woods on my 2004 B7800 have not had any problems I have used a 3 pt hitch set on another tractor did not like it chance for breakage. Like the other person take about 10 mins to put on or take off

A 3ph bh will tear the tractor apart. I believe there are 3 good 4ph backhoes that are available for your tractor: Kubota BH76 (new model; some dealers may still have some BH75 models on the lot), Woods BH70-X, and Woods BH80-X. The 80 will be too big if you are digging in dense clay or hardpan and the bh will move the tractor around too much.

Does the Woods BH-80 come with it's own seat? Did you have to install the 4 pt sub frame?

The traditional Kubota "3 point" BH required an upgraded toplink and perhaps other parts.

Search is your friend.

My ride, which I abuse, has the subframe and I often find myself lifting the front end with over 200lbs sitting in the FEL. Plus enough suitcase weights to fund an airline.

i have a b-4672a on my b2400 -- love it -- installed it out of the box --

-- the subframe was a LOT of work to install, but critical -- also, i too have the upgraded toplink -- or whatever they call it -- :D

-- here's pics --

The sub frames that any of the manufacturers sell are each designed to fit a specific tractor model. In other words, the bends and holes are in the right places (hopefully) to fit your particular tractor. The back end where the hoe attaches, will fit at least one model of the manufacturer's hoes, maybe more.

From what I've seen the Kubota subframes attach to both the ROPS brackets and the loader brackets to stiffen the center of the tractor. Some of the older ones extended all the way along the tractor to the front axle.

My Woods dealer told me they normally aren't a real headache to install unless you're not mechanically inclined. He said he has seen a few where they had to re-drill some holes that didn't quite line up properly. Whether or not that was "scare" to encourage me to pay them to do the job I don't know.

Woods BH70-X, BH80-X, and Kubota BH75 and BH76 all come with their own seat. You flip the tractor seat and the bh seats back and forth, up and down. There is no swivel seat. Someone has to install the subframe. Only a true TLB comes with the subframe as an original part of the tractor.

I bought a new L3700 with BH76 (subframe mount) a few weeks ago and the owners manual for the BH76 clearly indicates that there is a mount available for the B7800, so this should be an option for you.

and yeah, after using this thing, I wouldn't want a 3 point, I can very easily toss the whole tractor around with it, and the L3700 is quite a bit bigger and heavier than yours

A BL4690B would be the original backhoe that probably would have come on your tractor. I believe it was only available in a 3pt mounting version, but required an upgraded top link bracket that wrapped over the top of the 3pt housing. It still wasn't an ideal setup strength wise. The BH76 is what you would be looking for if you were buying a new Kubota hoe, it has the good 4-pt mounting system. It does have it's own seat, only the BH76 for the B3200 uses a swivel seat on the tractor. If you are going with a Woods, I would stick with the BH70-x, the BH80-x would really over power this size tractor IMO.

There is no such thing as a traditional Kubota 3 point backhoe.
Which word or words do you have problems with?
Is it that I did not preface it with SCUT or CUT?

As listed on this page:
Poplarville Sales & Equipment - Kubota B-Series
The Kubota B4672 and Kubota BL4690 are 3-point mounted. When I went to buy my BH two local dealers had B4672's they were offering and referred to them as 3-point mount and advised of the HD toplink.

Having a subframe that didn't quite line up would tend scare me the other direction.....Into doing the installation myself so as to be sure it was right.
Frankly that's a pain and I'd hope to be able to make an exception if the mechanic was known to me and I also knew he had time to do the job right.
