A friend of mine has a Kubota B1550HST that starts hard, smokes heavily, looses power then eventually quits. It has new injectors and fuel filter. Air filter is recent as well. I'm new to diesel engines but who is your friend gonna call? Very occasionally it clears up until you move the throttle. Worse with higher rpm. Any wild guesses? Or really good suggestions

The smoke color can give some indication of the problem. Black smoke is generally too much fuel or too little air. White smoke can be water getting into the cylinders. With the information given all you're likely to get are guesses. How was it before your friend started replacing parts?

Have him check for gunk in the fuel tank, or a plugged fuel tank cap. Pull the hose off the shut off valve and check for good flow. The SIL has one of these good little tractors, and that's what I found. I'm the family "go to guy" for mechanical issues. Algae can build up easy. A good aglaecide or other cleaner is called for. I had to take the valve apart to clean it and blow the fuel line out - back into the tank (take the cap off)...

His problem is solved for now, from what I've (not) heard.

I believe the smoke is why the parts were changed. I have good flow at the filter which I replaced again and cleaned the rust from the fuel bowl. It is definitely black smoke.. The engine quits when I crack an injector tube. The engine oil level is close to add. Radiator is full. Fuel knock is more pronounced after bleed.

Algaecide? I have good flow at the filter which I changed again. I also cleaned a lot or rust from the fuel bowl. New fuel has been added since this issue started. Sometimes the exhaust clears and the engine will rev to pto range them is starts to pull down and then the smoke returns
