My B1550 has not been starting as well as it used to. It starts, but it takes more cranking than it used to. I still get a little puff of black some as it comes to life. My understanding is that a bad glow plug would result in white smoke (unburned fuel) at startup. Am I wrong on that? I've replaced the fuel filter, which had no effect. What else should I be looking at?

Thanks!

Sounds like water in the fuel. Drain fuel and put fresh in anf see if that helps.

I am a bit confused(not unsual for me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) but you are asking about a B1550 and your profile says you have a TC33? any how , when i don't use the glow plugs my tractor cranks longer, and then gives me a black smoke, so i always ,even in warm temps give it a few sec. on glow plugs. are you sure your glow plugs are actually working?

The B1550 is technically my fathers tractor, but it's at my property for a while.

Is there a way to test the glow plugs, or should just replace them? Are there any relays that I should test or replace as well?

If you disconnect the wires from the glow plugs you can check them for continuity with an ohm meter. If you do not disconnect the wires you will read all of the glow plugs in parallel.
