B20 won\'t start

My B20 has an electrical problem when engaging the starter. I ran all the tests on the key switch, clutch safety lockuot switch, starter motor, and magnetic starter switch. The per heat sequence works well, the ignition in the on position lights all the lights etc but when the start switch is engaged it clicks once and the electrical system goes dead. What is really odd is that the electrical system restores itself in 30 minutes to an hour. I have a new battery in the tractor. I finally gave up and visited the dealer. I got an excellent repair person who assured me that my problem was the ground connection to the chassis. He said this is a common, but often overlooked problem on kubotas. The problem is only on starter motor engaging due to the high amps used..apparently this overheats the ground and kills the system. As soon as it cools it might re-establish partial ground..sufficient to run the lights etc. Cleaning up the chasis connection should solve the problem..we'll see tonight.

The ground is the first thing to check... also an overlooked "keep it simple" problem is corrosion on the inside of the connections to the battery terminal. Many times they look great on the outside but check the inside where contact is made. Acts the same as you are mentioning.

duke, i have had electrical problems with other things that fixed themselves as the system cooled. so your mech may be right. a connection that looks clean is not necessarily a clean connection.
