Anyone have info on B21 TLB? I aam considering purchasing a new B21 next spring. I like the fact it is an industrial/commercial machine and looking for comments from owners. I have 4 1/2 acres and a new home that needs landscaping finished. the lot is mostly scrub oak with some double and triple trees. I am especially interested in performance of backhoe pulling stumps. thanks for any input.

BillFires, There are several B21 owners on this board and I'm sure they will be happy to add some thoughts.

First on the down side, mowing with the B21 is probably not in the cards. It has no mid PTO and the loader is not designed for quick removal. With a rear mower the loader limits your manuverability. The PTO horsepower is 13.5, which is on the low side for compacts. I run a 48" rotary cutter and 50" tiller just fine. The warranty for the B21 is only 1 year. I guess they figure is you buy a B21 it will see commercial duty./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

On the up side the B21 is a tough little tractor. The hydraulics on the B21 are pretty robust, with a 8.5 GPM pump and ~ 10 gallon reservoir, you can work it hard all day long.

Pulling stumps. Thats a tough one. I have seen D7 Cats pucker up on stumps and it doesn't even take a big one. I have dug out big Maple and Cedar 2-3 ft Dia. Just takes a while. Smaller stumps 6" to 12" no big deal, but still not a slam dunk.

If you really want a backhoe the B21 is hard to beat. You might also look at the L35.

I've had a b21 for almost a year now. for a landscaping business and clearing brush around the property etc. I bought it mainly because thats what everyone recommended including the pro we used to hire hourly, also its what the rental yards around here use.
I especially like the power vs compact size. I can get in anywhere. I find it plenty powerful for residential landscaping. There are occasions where more power is needed, so I just bite of a smaller chunk. Stumps can be impossible though. I highly recomend a four in one for the loader. Could go on for awhile,,, what would you like to know? What area, terrain are you in?

Billfires, I had a B21 and traded it for a L35. Twinkletoes assessment was right on. The B21 tractor is the most robust tractor of any brand for its weight class. It is very powerful and rugged. However, stump removal is very difficult for the larger tractors. The B21 is not meant for large stump removals. I would not recommend the B21 for this purpose. The L35 is about 2000 lbs larger in size and 14 Hp more than the B21 and does a fairly good job for stump removals of less than 18".

After I bought the B21, I realized the machine was too small and traded it a my local dealer for the L35. Good luck with your decision.
