RESEARCH OPTIMAS BEFORE BUYING ONE!
I am on my second red top in a pickup truck. I replaced a 5 year-old diehard, well, because it was 5 years old. The diehard worked fine, but I figured a $200 battery would just never be an issue.
The optimas don't hold charge worth squat. Will go dead in a week. Have tested alternator, starter, and drain at rest. Not the problem.
So googled a bit and got a LOT of history. Optima was a premium product for a couple of decades, when Gates ran them. They went through a buyout to some swedish outfit, then Johnson controls took over the company, modified the design and moved production to Mexico. The brand has garnered many fans over the years, but you will find plenty of unhappy campers with recent Optimas.
